Thinking about hiring car from the period of 3 - 16 July where =
3-5 July will be in North Island ( Auckland)
5-16 July will be in South Island (Christchurch)
Can anyone suggest any either value for money or cheap car hiring during that period ?
Any idea what exactly the discount is, or is it variable?

Has anyone used this code for a booking? do they ask for any proof? It shows as "Discounts CDP: IAG STAFF FRIENDS & FAMILY", so they might want proof you work at IAG eg ID card. Looking for book a car from Auckland airport 3/10-13/10, want onsite because easier with a baby and carseat, prices are high, dam school holidays :(

Looking around, most of the deals seem to expire before your trip. Probably best to take a look around the end of April for the 20%+ or the book 10 get 2 free etc. deals.

if i got the hertz gold membership, is it worthwhile using them as oppose to the local car hire ?

That's the free one, right? Wouldn't hurt, but I wouldn't rely on it exclusively. You might get some member only deals, but there will still probably be cheaper options around. It all depends on the value and what kind of vehicle you want really.

I just need the basic automatic transmission car that fits in for 2 people for travelling but i will keep an eye for any potential deals

I use airportcarrentals.com to see prices, then often book directly with the combination of cheapest/least dodgy company. Apex are often good value, or Snap. I had a terrible experience with Hitch.
