    I find this amusing:

lowering your wastage on the environment

Yet they are all packaged in plastic…

Never seen one of their plastic recycling bins either.

All for cutting waste, but you don't cut waste by making more waste.

Will still be interesting to see how it goes though, didn't notice the products when we were in Aus the other day.

    • More interested in the cheap food then the environmental stuff. Normally shop at Pak 'N Save but countdown is getting more attractive, if they can get these ugly groceries as cheap as Pak 'N Save + the AA Smart fuel discounts countdown might end up cheaper.

      • Could do. Have noticed this summer that the price of fruit and veges has been much higher than the last 2. Remember plenty of $1/KG deals, but can't recall any recently.

  • Hah, I have been shopping for "ugly" fruit and veg long before this "campaign". I buy them at my local Asian grocery stores. Granny Smiths (for example, and at various times of the year) can be purchase for 99c/kg or less. Meanwhile, they are $2.99 or $3.99/kg at Countdown or Pak n Save. Yes they are nicer looking there, but I am sure they all taste the same :)

  • Saw these in our local Silverdale Countdown yesterday and the pricing was only marginally cheaper than the regular product so it appears to be a marketing gimmick. I would sooner spend a few cents per kilo more for the option to pick my own veg and not have to buy 1.5kg+ bags at a time.

Even so, our local Pak N Save is consistently better value for Fruit and Veg compared to Countdown; eating healthy in NZ is so expensive when you can buy 2KG of Frozen Chips for $4 while 1KG of potatoes is often $3+.
