Service providers

Hi all, I'm looking for help to find cheap services to a place I'm moving in to in Flat Bush, Auckland. The heating is served by gas lines to the neighborhood and there's a heat pump/air conditioning unit which we probably won't use.

I've already signed up for slingshot Fibre 100 for 12 months, not sure if it will be enough or not. If not, then I'll just upgrade at the next billing cycle.

At the time that we move in, will only be my wife and I. My wife stays at home. Will be thinking of taking some homestay students as well later.

What power and gas company would be cheapest?

  • Powerswitch.org.nz , see who is recommended then visit their websites and check manually.

Also contact fast connect. Protip: Get them to email you and then reply with all your details and the services you are after and they will reply with their deals. This stops you eating time talking to them on the phone.

Beast deal for me (wellington, low user, lpg cylinder for hot water, vdsl as no ufb in area):

Trustpower: power and lpg. 1 year contract.
$150 sign up bonus. Discount on lpg rental. 15% discount on prompt payments.

2Degrees: unlimited vdsl. 2 year contract. Free fritzbox. $49/mo for 1 year then a bit more (?$85). Includes discount as already being customer.

Trustpower also offered bundled internet but the deal wasn't as good as 2 degrees.

Check the other recent thread for details.

If you wanted adsl then vodafone does best deal. See my thread.

  • skinny.co.nz $16 mobile
    unlimitedinternet.co.nz $59

  • Does anyone have experience with electrickiwi and their hour of power? Looks attractive.

    • I'm thinking the same thing, although flick also seem to have attractive pricing. Haven't used either though.

      • +1

Currently on Flick (switched a few months ago), seems to be cheap.

  • +1

    Power: Flick
    Broadband: BigPipe

    • +1, same as what I am on.

  • I'm on meridian, switched a few months ago was the best deal around at the time.

    16.78c kw
    +0.19c kw -levy
    +$1.65 Daily Charge
    fixed untill 31/03/2018

It's is the high usage version of the plan and I sit right in the middle of low/high use.

I think the plan is called
    Fixed Rate Economy 24
    or
    Standard User Plan

I can also forward details to my rep if anyone is interested. I think they might put you on contract now though, I joined during a no contract promo.

Wow… That's insane. It is double that here.

      • Yep, im very happy. My winter bill didn't go above $200 which was nice!

  • Cheers for the input, though I can't understand why the electricity is more expensive in one location than in another.
