iPhone 7 Plus Best Way to Buy?

Hi guys, I have always buy my phone outright from Apple Store

I am wondering is there any other ways that will save me some money? Won't benefit from plan from mobile companies as I am a low user so prepay plans suit me fine. Therefore those plans and pay monthly towards the phone will ended up more expansive for me.

Is buying it duty free cheaper? (Not that I am travelling) but keen to hear whats my options.

Thank you guys.

  • Maybe have a look at PriceSpy. PriceSpy does often list 'grey' import stores that don't have the best reputation (e.g. Supero, Becextech).

I always wait a while and get one second hand on TradeMe. Currently using my iPhone 6 I got last year second hand and it still works perfectly fine. Not in a hurry to upgrade.

    • Yeah good idea. But my phone is pretty old now (iPhone 5) and it is getting a bit too slow for my liking. Keen to upgrade. Would rather wait for next year to be honest.. the upgrade this year is not enough but yeah out of necessity i might have to bite the bullet and just get it this year :(

      • Maybe get an iPhone 6 or 6s off TradeMe?

  • Buy in Australia then claim tax back at airport. If it's international warranty then that would be a good deal. Technically you are supposed to declare the iphone at customs when you return to nz. So if you do and they charge you tax then you don't save much. You must have tax receipt from the shop.

    • Thats a good idea. Should be okay to pass through the customs I reckon. But yeah don't know anyone travelling to Aus anytime soon. I think Ill just bite the bullet and buy it online. Sucks have to wait though… wish I could just buy it and get it instantly. Thanks for the tip though.

Is that using the new teleportation delivery service from Smiths City?

  • Auckland also have them for sale in the duty free area of the airport, but Christchurch do not.
If your normal bill is high anyway and/or you have a business claim on the bill then the Spark deal is good where the phone is discounted $800 (I think) when signing up to a 24mth $99.99 plan with unlimited calls/texts and 7.5gb data.
Obviously dumb to sign up to that if your usual monthly spend is less than about $65.
