Meat content in a sausage can be as low as 30%. And half of that can legally be fat and connective tissue.
So in terms of quality protein content, sausages can often be among the more expensive and most dubious ways of purchasing meat.
Better to buy a cheaper cut of actual meat and slow cook it to get maximum nutritional value from it.

I didn't know there were laws over the ingredients of a sausage :).
Same for milk content of 'icecream', 'butter' and many other products. For better or worse, there are laws about most things. Food laws in NZ are fairly lenient towards the major food processors.(as opposed to the stringent laws for cottage industries like locally made cheeses and jams.) Many product labels are aspirational rather than actual.
When you see something like 'beef flavoured sausages' you have to wonder.
Not so much about making healthy choices as about making economic ones. You could make your own genuine sausages, burgers etc from base ingredients, with a lot more real flavour and less cost.
This is also an issue when looking at the water/fluid content of sold meat. Products like bacon and silverside are routinely injected with liquids.
Recently let a slab of plastic sealed silverside drain. There was a 30% reduction in the weight of the product after it drained. So the 'special' wasn't so special any more if you worked out a $/kg based on weight of the actual meat content.

yeah i quite like these, made the mistake the other week of getting a new world one, its basically a sponge with banana flavour, awful fake banana flavour. avoid
