Micromall requesting further payments for shipping after purchase

Hi Cheapies.

Can I have your advice on this one.

Micromall solar has twice messed me around with shipping and Im wondering how to deal with their most recent request for more payment.

The first time, I purchased some panels and paid for shipping to my address.
Instead without telling me, they just shipped to a depot, and when my items didn't arrive, I had to call around before finding out what they had done. I had to then drive to the depot and pick up the panels myself, which was a mission without a trailer.

Micromall didn't apologise but just said it wasn't economical for them to ship it to me.
What blows my mind is that they never told me.

This current time, I gave them another chance. Purchased a small solar battery, just a 100ah. Paid for item AND $20.00 Shipping.
Now they email me saying they didnt charge me enough shipping and requesting a further $70.00 for shipping before they send it.

I note that both trade depot and watt cycle have free shipping, so I will not be purchasing from Micromall again.

Should I pay this shipping to just get it over with? Or ask they ship my item with the amount I have already paid?

  • Ask for a full refund and move on to the next supplier. Especially if they're not charging for shipping.

  • I agree with the above replies. Personally, I wouldn't have gotten into it a second time, given their attitude the first time, but you are where you are at now.

They formed a contract to deliver to you - I would tell them you want them to either keep to what they 'shook hands on', or refund you in full. If you don't they will likely just take advantage of you to get you to pay more again like they did the first time.

  • When you say a depot is this because you're in a Rural Delivery area? Either way the should have warned you prior rather than just shipping it to the depot! Get it refunded and go elsewhere.

  • Sounds like its their problem to fix, not yours. If they don't want to, then get them to refund and take your business elsewhere.
Once bitten, twice shy - avoid them going forwards as they have (seemingly) consistently showed less than reasonable practices.

  • Recommend posting on geekzone as well

  • Don't pay extra, either ask them to deliver to door or full refund. If they choose to not refund you completely, file a CC chargeback, usually shuts dodgy merchants up real fast.

  • Seperate to your current issue, I'd be wary of using Trade Depot instead as they can also be pretty unreliable.

  • Thanks, another company on the list not to deal with.

  • Mate, you may have missed their shipping policy. It specifically says on their website that they ship to your local depot (Mainfreight in my case).

I ordered mine in APril, and was very clear I was having to pick them up from Mainfreight. They also sent me a couple of emails with the tracking stuff for Mainfreight.

Not sure about your experience but I just checked the website and it still says this. Not sure you can be too upset about that one.

As for the second one, I posted a decent size book a few days ago and it was $18 in a NZ post bag (Medium size) to a rural address. Shipping is getting nuts.

I was also quoted $120 to ship something else recently that blew me mind!

But if you have paid shipping already thats really on them for the second one IMHO. I imagine a 100amp battery still weighs a heap so shipping would easily be over $20.

EDIT I just saw on their shipping policy they mention that:

    Shipping Cost Estimates
Costs on quotes and online orders are live carrier estimates. Extra adjustments may occasionally apply for rural routes, remote regions, tail-lift requirements, or special oversized freight profiles.

    • Literally the only business I've ever heard that does this.

I just added something to cart and there's no blaring indication that the cost is an estimate only and price adjustments may be required. I'm not going to look at a companies privacy policy, shipping policy, returns policy (to see if I have to send 5 emails and a phone call before a return can happen).

This is an issue with the business not making it clearly obvious. Not the customer.

      • Customer: "Hi, how much is shipping?"

        Them: "Yes."

        • Customer: "Hi, how much is shipping?"

Them: "Don't worry about it, but we'll have a debt collector chase you after it arrives."
