Qatar Airways has Auckland to Rome for about $2,070 return with a 25kg bag, for trips leaving between mid February and 10 March 2027 and coming home before Easter. Google Flights says that's about $730 less than this trip usually costs.

Out: 1:15pm from Auckland, lands in Rome at 6:45am the next day. Home: 3:10pm from Rome, lands in Auckland at 6:50am two days later. Weekday departures were cheapest. Once the trip runs into Easter (28 March) it jumps to about $2,830.
Catches
- It's about 29 hours each way, with a short stop in Melbourne on the way out and a change in Doha.
- The cheapest prices come from online agencies like Gotogate and Mytrip, with no refunds or changes. If you'd rather book with Qatar directly, it was about $70 more on 10 March.
- The low fare is for Rome. On the same dates Qatar wanted $2,270 for Paris and $2,337 for Milan.
From Christchurch
$2,524 for 10 to 31 Mar on Etihad, plus $142 for a bag. Flying Jetstar to Auckland first (about $165 return when we checked) and taking Qatar comes to about $2,240. They're separate tickets, so leave a few hours spare in Auckland.
