  • Is XIII good? never played it

    • Ask 10 different people and get 10 different answers to that question.

At the time of release it was quite divisive because it was more linear than previous FF titles, it plays more like an Uncharted game where you're walking down corridors in linear levels then there's a cutscene then more corridors then a battle then more corridors then cutscene then battle, rinse and repeat. The bonus of them doing it this way is that they could deliver a more focused story at the cost of exploration, which some people appreciated while others didn't like it at all. The world does open up into a giant open world level towards the very end of the game. I played it at release and thought it was ok, it's turn based, it looks amazing, for $7 buy it and if it doesn't grab you in the first couple of hours then get Steam to refund you.

    • XIII was awesome for the story and visuals. It's linear for a long time, though, before opening up eventually.

XIII-2 was a fun little Final Fantasy jaunt.

      Lightning Returns was super mediocre.

  • played 7,9 on ps1 which was great. 10, i didnt finish on ps2 yet, but it was a great, 15 was great on pc.
will play the first 6 and then 8,13.

    • Same as me hehe. But I also played 16 and the 7 remakes

      • did the 7 remake have the golden chocobo farming part? The knights of the round made the ending so much easier.

        • It didn't. I bet you that will come on the third game of the remake.
But both games are great and very nostalgic.

          • @Neotk:

… both games are great and very nostalgic.

I haven't played the remakes at all, but did play FFVII on the PSX in the nineties (I guess it was - recollection might be off).

My most abiding memory was the great design - thee way that the map was always there and essentially the same, but as you progressed, it effectively opened up, and became larger and larger, as you found additional options to move around (like the buggy, HighWind (?), and the flying Chocobos.

The music, especially when you were flying around in HighWind, was also great.

I also have a strong memory of trying to march in step with the parade (might have been a place called Junon or something like that) just before you are about to cross the sea. Took me ages to get that timing, and I never did manage to get the top prize!

            • @Alan6984: I've finished the original game like 3 or 4 times with max time on the clock. Such a great game, omg!

              • @Neotk: Do you mean the clock showed 99:99:59 (or something similar) and just stuck there?

I seem to recall that too!

Pretty sure I played it through at least three times as well :-)

                • @Alan6984: Yep. Exactly that. haha. The first play through took so long because I didn't know English at the time. I had to keep pressing buttons talking to the NPCs until a "different" conversation would popup so I knew I was on the right way at the story ahahahah OMG, my 12-ish years old… so much free time.

                  • @Neotk:

Hah - My twenty-something self also had a lot of free time compared to now.

You don't appreciate how much freedom you have with no kids, or even just how simple things are with just one child for that matter, until you've got a few ;-)

  • Has been extended until 9 October. Picked up FF6, 8 and 9
