  • I know this Auntie is a Cheapies favourite, but please be aware it is made with imported pork. I think the director said Turkey, but that was a while ago.

    • Damn. Alternative that isn't?

    • Türkiye is 90%+ Muslim. Be very surprising if the pork came from there.

      • So the pork…. is not pork.

    • What's wrong with imported pork, as long as it meets the food standards of MPI? Yes, NZ pork is of better quality but it should be treated as a premium product with a premium price. Rest of us just need normal pork for our cheap dumplings. Japanese people don't all eat A5 wagyu all the time

      • Don't know if that claim is true, but I assume the underlying issue they have is that imported meat could come from countries without animal welfare protections.

        • This is for sure part of it. I feel bad enough eating pork from NZ. Absolutely stoked to see these guys https://poaka.co.nz/ opening a store locally!! I've been generally avoiding pork but I do love a dumpling.

          • @tacobaron: Almost everything on there seems to be sold out.

            • @Stoic: I noticed as well! I hope the retail store will have more stock.

    • Can you back this up with a link?

      • Second this, I don't doubt it's imported pork, but curious because i can't find the source

        • Most pork is imported, so it's not surprising.

  • I definitely believe it is pork, but the price dictates the source. I rang a mobile number (iirc from the packaging?) and the Chinese owner answered the second time.
Never considered the Muslim factor, but I recall many Asian roast duck stores including Tai Ping using imported pork from China, Middle East etc.
I prefer South Island pig because it tastes better.

  • Might be targetted, but I got an email saying if you spend over $50 on dinner made easy you get free express pickup using code DINNER. 8 bags of Auntie Dai's qualified.

I selected non express pickup and got $6 credit, which more than pays for the $3.50 pickup charge.

  • Back to $6 never I guess
