  That's a lovely chocolate but high fat milk or whiite chocolate like this tends to go rancid due to the high levels of milkfat beyond end of shelf life.

  This brand has my go-to hot chocolate. I have tried the chocolate as well and it is pretty amazing for baking, but cannot call me on anything past before date as I've never tried that

      I am not sure there is a huge concern here; they are stating they eat them past the BB - fair call - I have eaten many products past their BB dates too and 99% of the time have never noticed a difference, although with Chocolate that tends to have the bloom which is largely visual. There is no coercion going on, people can still decide for themselves whether they want to. I would personally be making the call on whether the discount is enough to justify the decision, but wouldn't be worrying about the BB date (and its relative safety). Probably, if it was a expiry date (rather than a BB) then it would be a little more dodge.

      Best Before != Expiry

      Things past their best before are not unsafe, the manufacturer no longer guarantees their quality, such as content settling, or ingredients separating. Food doesn't turn into arsenic after the BB date.

      It's not as nice to eat, but you could still safely eat a chocolate bar years later that's gone all dry, dusty and cracked if it's still sealed in its packet.

      I shop at places that mostly sell dated product because of people who confuse best before with expiry.

      You'd be hard pressed to find a difference between a product that's a week prior to its best before, and a week after.

      If anything, a best before date is profit maximising behaviour from a manufacturer, as purchased product (by say, a supermarket, or someone finds it in their cupboard) gets thrown out despite still being perfectly good.
