hey Cheapies!
I’m Lachlan, and I’m associated with The SIM Shop. I’ve been working on this side project for the past 6 months or so now, a travel eSIM store called The SIM Shop, and I’m at the point where I’ve stared at the site for waaaay too long (ahhhh I've got square eyes) and would really appreciate any feedback from the community.
I posted on OzBargain last weekend and got a bunch of useful comments around the site, pricing and general advice, so I thought I’d share it here too. Since the store charges in AUD (I'm still working on multi-currency toggles), I’ve added rough NZD examples below.
If anyone is travelling soon and actually wants to test it, I’ve tried to be fair with the discounts rather than pretending every plan has the same margin. I’ve put a few deals together with discounts that are as big as I can make them, depending on the location and plan type. More deets below ->
Discount Codes:
POPULAR30 gives 30% off selected popular fixed-data plans where the supplier costs leave enough room.
FEEDBACK20 gives 20% off eligible country, regional and global plans where the bigger code does not apply.
A few POPULAR30 examples, charged in AUD with rough NZD conversion:
Thailand 10GB / 30 days: A$16.95 to A$11.86, about NZ$14.40
UK 10GB / 30 days: A$16.95 to A$11.86, about NZ$14.40
Japan 10GB / 30 days: A$19.95 to A$13.96, about NZ$16.95
USA 10GB / 30 days: A$19.95 to A$13.96, about NZ$16.95
Indonesia 20GB / 30 days: A$24.95 to A$17.46, about NZ$21.20
New Zealand 5GB / 30 days: A$14.95 to A$10.46, about NZ$12.70
POPULAR30 currently applies to eligible fixed-data plans for:
Canada
China Mainland
France
Indonesia
Italy
Japan
Malaysia
New Zealand
Singapore
South Korea
Thailand
UK
USA
Vietnam
It does not apply to daily high-speed/day-pass plans, regional plans or global plans. Those can usually use FEEDBACK20 instead:).
One important thing too that I’m trying to make really clear in the setup flow -> please check the activation timing for the plan you buy. For most travel eSIMs, the safest routine is to activate once you’ve landed overseas using airport Wi-Fi or another steady connection, rather than doing it too early before the trip.
If you're thinking of leaving feedback, I’m mainly wondering:
Would you trust it enough to buy before a trip?
Is the data-only eSIM thing clear?
Are the phone compatibility warnings obvious enough?
Does the pricing feel fair, confusing, suspicious, too cheap, too expensive?
Anything that gives off unpolished/could be touched up vibes?
Cheers, I appreciate any help :)
