Disney+ Jumping to $259/Yr Is Insane. Any Cheap Workarounds?

Hey cheapies friends,

Just saw that Disney Plus is going up to $259.99 a year with my renewal in a fortnight.

Remember when it was $99.99? What a massive jump, it's actually crazy.

Anyone got any good tricks to get it cheaper? Looked to see if I can get it with vpns so far no luck haha!

Is anyone on the ads plan, are the ads annoying or worth the savings?

Keen to hear how everyone else is handling the price hike!

Cheers,
Disney fan

  • It is ridiculously expensive. If you don't want to sail the high seas, I'd suggest going month by month and jumping ina and out between the different streamers when you're out of things you want to watch.

  • 7 seas

  • Captain Jack Sparrow is my content provider.

  • I've just given up paying for all these streaming services, they were once affordable but not any more.
I just utilise FMHY dot net.

    • Honestly, I was happy when it was just Netflix. I don't need a bazillion services. Like for music streaming any app is decent enough and there's very little exclusive content.

      • So much for competition making things cheaper! 😅🤷

        • Content rights holders sell them as exclusives making them only competing on the purchasing end, not the selling end sadly.

          • @Jexla: Problem is that the content owner also owns the streaming platform, studio and distribution company. So it's not them selling it it's them withholding it from the market. If they were selling it other platforms would have a chance to buy it.

            • @Everettpsycho: Yeah, that's something that's also compounded the issue I mentioned. The large studios have now made their own platforms in addition to the likes of Neon and Netflix.

So we went from bad, to good, back to bad. So we're all back to pirating!

  • I was using the Turkish workaround for 3 years whilst sharing it with 3 of my friends so it ended up being quite cheap. I stopped the renewal as we didn't use it much and started using Stremio for content that was only available on Disney+.

  • I just cancelled and didnt look back; the fear is worse than the reality. Instant saving of $259/year. :D

  • Use Shopback for cashback

    • Tried that last time. They gave me $1 something even though I followed all the right steps and everything :( will try again tho haha. Thank you!!

      • It's regularly $34 cashback if you book for a year in advance

  • You can also try 'cancelling' your plan. When you click through, they usually give you an offer prior to canceling.

I was on the monthly plan @12.74 (offer I got when i tried to cancel) but just changed over to the ads plan @9.99. Tough times. It will only take effect on my next billing cycle so cant comment yet.

    • Oo thanks I'll give that a go!! Really keen to see the newest Avatar on it end of the month haha!

  • I'm still on the Turkish workaround, renewed 29 April for 132NZD / year for Premium..
Turkey payment profile in google etc.

    • Might to try getting on this and working harder for it haha! Did you use the same account for Disney or make a new one when signing up?

      • Different email for the Disney login - was an existing account as well.
