American Express Platinum Card "Plus"

Appreciate not overly Cheapies, but thought worth a mention as there's occasional discussion on Amex……

After the Amex Platinum (charge card) was discontinued sometime last year, exiting cardholders retained the card and it's full benefits.

The AF is hefty, $1250, but for those that maximise the benefits it can more than pay for itself. Granted the recent Accor Plus changes have been a slight dent though.

As a legacy card holder I've received a letter saying from 1st July the card will be renamed "The American Express Platinum Card Plus"

Although not listed on the Amex website, perhaps this is a hint there will be a return of a high fee / high reward card for the NZ market?

    Got the letter too. I’m concerned they are watering down benefits. No mention of the Accor Plus inclusion remaining….

      My AF was due a couple weeks ago and the Accor Plus sub renewed accordingly too, so im hoping they wont pull it

        I don’t think they’ll pull it, it’s already gone from one free stay to 2x BOGOF night. That’s already a pretty big downgrade. Plus I feel that they are trying hard to retain existing holders, got offered 300k points when I tried to cancel it.

          Yeah, the BOGOF is big as well as the dining discount change. Good call on the retention points, I got a reasonable sum a few years ago when there were some (I think) insurance changes, might try that again now too

          Wow! 300k is amazing! When I called in Apr, they said no. May I ask when was this?

            @Superpower21: It was in April as well, but maybe my last retention offer was 2023.
