  • Snapdragon 8 Gen2 is a great chipset and a good price for one.

Albeit I bought my wife a new phone last year, half tempted to get her one of these.

My phone is a Snapdragon 8 Gen1, and I have a spare set of parts to refurbish it when the battery goes, so I JUST can't justify it for me. Did give it a second thought, though.

  • This gets one more software update to Android 17 if that matters to people. Security patches until 2028 though.

    • I buy based on chipset, I don't actually like foldables at all.

Chipset directly translates to usability (page/app load times etc)

    • And half the size when it's folded, like when it goes in your pocket. That's the main point for a lot of people.

      • the advantage of flips and foldables is the extra real estate, the disadvantage is the added thickness when folded. Foldables have double the screen whereas flips are exactly the same but thicker, it's more impractical for no benefit, that's why they're going cheap.

        • Tell me you’re a guy without telling me you’re a guy.

Now talk to women and figure out that flips are actually way easier to fit into those tiny jeans pockets and smaller bags.

There’s absolutely a market for them, they’re not making 8 versions for absolutely no reason.

  • Thoughts?

I really need a new phone that is reasonably fast, has a decent enough Camera (ideally with some stabilisation) after the powers that be decided my 4yr old VoLTE enabled phone won't work anymore because…. Well no one is really clear about that one (and there are a crap load of people in the same boat - some with even newer phones).

Mostly just net surfing and photos. I'd keep the Reno2 I have (which is fine) if I could make 111 calls.

I really don't like the folding screen idea much. Seems a bit pointless when it just ends up being twice as thick? Which doesn't seem ideal when you carry it in your pocket. Not likely to go much over $500 though (unless there is some amazing deal on a awesome phone), so it seems that this might be one of the better options in that range, especially new.

    • Are you missing the VoLTE calls setting in NETWORK SETTINGS under SIM info and settings? If available it's between the Data roaming and Preferred network type settings.

  • battery is pretty small by standards these days

  • Watched a legend utube video on phone settings last night. There's a huge and remarkable amount of settings you can change to improve everything about your phone. It was about an hour long. Highly reccomend it.
The tuber is called payette forward.
Your phone will be faster improved battery life way more secure use less data etc etc.
May not need a better phone and yours will last longer

    • I haven't watched any videos, but I disabled all the Smart Battery settings and always on data and my battery life restored from like 6 hours to 2 days because all the stupid "smart" shit that must have been introduced in a later version of Android was stopping it from sleeping.

I noticed it was always warm, even when just sitting on my desk and I thought I had something bad installed, so I did a factory reset first and it had the same problem. So it was 100% a settings problem as it was on a fresh instance.

The app "AccuBattery" is how I saw it wasn't sleeping ever.

      • Here's a few. Pure black screen wallpaper, looks great too. Turn off nearby device scanning. Turn data saver on. Turn off background data on everything except messages and email. Turn off location, only need it for maps really.
Check out your app permissions, its amazing what apps have permissions to that they don't need.
Turn off send diagnostics on your google app.
        Just a few.
And if you watch the utube video there's loads of hidden apps and settings.
My battery app is saying a full charge lasts 3 days 14 hours now. But I did the whole video all of it

  • Do we need any code for the further 15% off? Coz it's showing $600
