What’s Happened to Mighty Ape and Primate?

Hi y’all!

Long time cheapie and not usually one to complain but what is going on with Mighty Ape? I’ve been a decade long customer and the sale to Kogan has absolutely ruined everything good about Mighty Ape.

  1. Website - The website is atrocious. The problems I’ve had finding things, things showing multiple times in a list and log in issues!!
  2. Price match - this used to be one of the best things about MA. You’d send through a website with it cheaper and hear back so quickly and usually it would go through. Now no price matching!!! I’ve tried via chat and it takes 3 days to get back to you so you have already brought somewhere else.
  3. Primate shipping - now anything under $30 a single item attracts a shipping cost of $7.99 (it’s around this maybe $6.99) for each item under $30. I’m sorry what madness is this?! I’d happily add things to my cart to get it over a limit but even buying a single Funko Pop for example costs you extra $ so I’ve been shopping elsewhere (pop stop for the win)
  4. The app - I’m not even going to start here but wtf Mighty Ape.
  5. The price - did you know the price for the annual primate has gone up because I sure as heck didn’t know. We went from $69 to $89 - when was this going to be communicated to primate members? Just like the new shipping charges wasn’t explained either.

I usually pay yearly for my primate membership but I’ve cancelled and will not be renewing unless they bring back free shipping or free shipping over a certain amount (which I’d be happy to buy more to meet!)

Also I’m very unlikely to shop at Mighty Ape after this. I’ve been loyal to years pretty much buying what I can from them but it’s just not worth it anymore.

I am wondering if I’m the only one or others are out here the same? How are you all feeling about all this? Have they lost you as a customer too? I’m wondering if there’s enough feedback we can get them to change back because I have a feeling they’ve lost a lot of business over this all.

    Yeah, it's basically just another kogan clone site now. Is pretty sad, but expected when they sold.

    On the plus side, it leaves space in the market for the next MightApe 🤞

    Where have you been for a year?

    They ruined the site and it's never recovered, removing the wishlist was another big kick in the nuts - honestly whoever runs MA has no idea about user experience - remember the sad reality about businesses; if you work there you probably don't actually shop there. You'd think they'd listen to feedback of actual users. I sent them a rather lengthy email about it at the time and got a generic, 'you're not the only one, we're working on it' email, no apology, nothing. It was even covered on the news, still no change.

    I only use their site now for the odd large product that is Kogan branded and pay for shipping as required. Since Amazon Australia shipped here I can buy everything I need there with free shipping. They got rid of monthly free shipping too, now forcing you into a yearly subscription and are now upselling as you have described shipping. Sometimes even with their discount, it's better to just make a new free trial, buy and then cancel the trial than subscribing.

    Welcome to the world.

    Someone starts an ingenious company (Insert whatever name you want here) (eg Mighty Ape, 1-day ) It becomes popular. They sell it. The new owner rips the guts out of it,lays off staff, lowers quality, while trading on the name until it has declined to a point that is untenable. Then they flog off the shell or just dump it after they've had their way with it and look for the next one.

    Kogan is rubbish imo .
    No one's going bananas for the ape anymore.
    Also that website that the warehouse group purchased and failed called Marketplace was rubbish too. Not to be mistaken for Facebook marketplace lol.

    Bring Back 1-Day deals !! is my chant.

    I asked them to delete my account after the data breach and I’ll never shop there again ruined otherwise a great service / company that was mighty ape
