Looking at buying a spa pool

Hello team. The wife and I are looking at buying a spa pool.

Main reason we're all on cheapies… Deals!

Do you know of any clearance spa pool deals or good deals happening at the moment? I've had a bit of a look around and have stumbled upon a couple of good prices, but always good to put the word out.

Can be anywhere in NZ as shipping is an option.

Thanks in advance.

  • Quite often good deals to be had at the mystery creek field days.

This year there will be Alpine, Hot Spring and Silver Spas

  • With spas, if you're a true Cheapie then you'll want to consider the electrical cost. A hot water heat pump is the way to go to reduce costs there. Spanet - an OEM that makes equipment for many (but not all) of the brands makes a fairly cheap heat pump for many of their spas - the 'Eco Cube.' If you do buy a spa on special if you want to save long term costs budget the extra $1500 - $2000 to get one of those.

The other things to consider are costs for things like hardwired vs 15a socket - if you have existing sockets then having the electrician come out to run a new circuit and hardwire in spa can get expensive, particularly if you need to trench the power cables etc.

  • I’ve had the alpine Matterhorn for about 9 years now. Use simple silver 500g blocks which last a year - good if you are not one to test the water weekly and use chemicals. Buy a set of spare filters to clean and swap out regularly. Ours gets used 2-4 times a week all year round. Older model probably not as efficient as the heat pump model adds around $80 per month to the power bill. Happy days!

  • Auckland Home Show is on 28-31 May at Eden Park, may be deals available

  • Nice work team. You've all definitely added a little something to think about.

This is not closed, if anyone else wants to add info please do.

  • If you're thinking about moving houses in the future keep in mind the spa pool will add significantly to your relocation costs if it cant be trolleyed in or lifted by 2-3 people (Truck and 3 is most common for relocation).

Unless your buyer doesnt mind you leaving a spa pool with the property.

I work at a removal firm and a spa pool is a PITA as it also adds extra hours to your removal which may add an extra day to your relocation (if a day only has a certain amount of man hours available your relocation may take more than 2 days)

    • +1

Pro tip, empty the pool first

      • Luckily i'm not a mover. I only talk to customers. Not my problem if a customer cant afford to move their spa pool

  • Have you ever considered 2nd hand? Marketplace and Trade Me are often full of people who struggle to even give them away. But yes, the transport is the main issue.

    • We've looked at second hand (Nelson) marketplace is very limited with options. Basically junk and rubbish. TM people understandably don't want to deal with shipping plus the price of some secondhand units I've seen are more expensive than buying new.
