Free Mainland Ceramic Baking Dish with Purchase of 2 Mainland Cheese Participating Products @ Woolworths

200

There’s currently a promotion where you can get a free ceramic baking dish when you buy two participating Mainland cheese products at Woolworths. I called ahead to check availability and managed to grab one — I’ve since used it and found it to be pretty nice for a “freebie.”

In my case, I picked up two bags of cheese for $16 total ($8 each on sale), unfortunately, some stores have now run out of stock, and it’s unclear if they’ll be getting more in.

$26.70 (or even $22.70) per kg for bog-standard cheese?

    Yeah - nah.

But it comes with a free dish, and it looks pretty good. The value of the dish alone is more than the cheese, it's a bargain.

If you're patient, you can pickup cheese for $11 per kg (sometimes $10, but far rarer, so lets go with the higher price), and it will keep for months (unopened / frozen).

So, the two bags of cheese are objectively worth 2 x 375g x $11 per kg = $8.25. The actual cost here is $17. The dish is therefore costing $8.75.

So, I have to ask myself, if I walked past a lasagne dish in the supermarket for $8.75 would I jump up and down and cry, 'Hell Yeah!' slightly worrying the small child, and her mother, that were just behind me, but who just scurried away as fast as junior's legs would carry them?

I guess anything is possible :-)

Mainland cheese is way better than cheap supermarket band cheese though. Particularly the mainland tasty, it's still made with animal rennet.

While most people probably buy pre-grated cheese for convenience, I buy it for when making cheese scones as I think the cheese holds up better and is slightly less melty.

          • @Stoic: I dont like the pre grated cheese as it has wood added to make it non stick, humans cant digest wood. One time lately i did buy grated cheese as at pak n sav they had all these freshly grated bags of bbq flavored cheese, got a bag thinking itd be crap but was ok price, was so good, cant find it again tho, guessing maybe the deli had a big block that wasnt selling so they grated and bagged it.

            • @quote: Exactly. Bulking up food with forestry byproduct that effectively prevents sticking and probably extends shelf life by absorbing moisture.
That is why I always grate my own tasty mainland.

            • @quote: I have no issue with a little extra fibre.

😊Thanks for sharing! I was on the look out for a new Lasagne dish, now I can get this one while purchasing the cheese for the meal 😎win win

  • i picked this up on the weekend and its really good size and decent quality, so i find that to be worth it in itself, even if the cheese is pricy

Just for anyone wanting to know the size of the dish, its 22cmx22cm with a depth of 4cm

    • 4cm really doesn't sound tall enough for a lasagne. I like to aim for 5 layers of pasta which needs about 7cm

If you're in Dunedin tins of tomatoes are 49c at PnS if you're looking to make a casserole in your new dish.

Also I find it funny how they say it's worth $25 and in Dunedin Woolie's have some white ones that're roughly the same size for $14

Does anyone know which store in Central Auckland still has stock?

    • Lynfield has plenty although that is more central / west

  • Thanks, I picked one up.

Just got one from Auckland Quay Street - Only 2 or 3 left. Had to ask at the help desk for them (no visible display in store)

  • Looks like you can claim this online as well. Add 2 of cheese products and the Mainland lasagna dish in to your cart. I scheduled a pick up order for tomorrow.
