Development of an App

Hi CC fans. I am looking to get an app developed hopefully. I know nothing about this. AI has said that with AI guidance I can develop an app on Bubble.com.
I am only a little tech savy. Mainly patient but this seems a huge undertaking.
There are so many very clever people on here, I thought I'd ask for your helpful opinions. Keyword Helpful.

Thank you in advance.

  • Is this paid for app? How is the market for this type of app already?

Perhaps a joint venture with a dev is a good way to deploy

  • I am a software dev and use AI daily. Depending on what you want to develop these tools are getting really good to make quick progress without development experience and minimal outlay.

Jump in and give it a go you’ll be surprised at far you can go these days.

Ps: I mainly use Claude code and Codex aimed at more the professional side.

    • Thank you for your support. I appreciate it. I've started…..tediously, on bubble, at no charge for 2 weeks. I am using AI to guide me. As described in a lower comment, it needs to have many workings, provide information, sell advertising etc but I want to be professional. So far today, day 1 I've walked away from my laptop.

  • There are plenty of AI-assisted app creation tools now available, I'd say just pick one and start writing. Two that I've used are Bolt.new and Lovable - they're very easy to use and there are tons of tutorials if you get stuck. You literally just tell it what you want and it will write the entire app for you - I'm simplifying here, in practice it ranges between simple to very tedious, but this is where you probably should start.

If it's anything more than a very basic app you'll need to pay for a subscription for these services, and they will not produce a "customer ready" app, at best you can consider it a proof of concept. For production you'll need more help: for example addressing security, data storage, backups, monetisation (if that's a goal), login and user management, etc. AI can help with most of these but it would help if you can find someone at this point who knows software and can advise on next steps and what's important.

    Good luck!

    • I should clarify that these tools will create "web apps" or apps that run through your browser, although they can be packaged into something to install on a mobile if that's what you want, but that's much more complex.

      • Thank you for your insight. It all is very helpful. It will have payment facilities. It will be a busy complicated system, an app for the phone. It will have information, services and advertising for services. I will read your comment again and learn more. Thank you

  • If it's an app for the phone you'll need to specify if its for Android or Apple. If android you might want to use one of a few 'coding tools' on your computer rather than using a website to build……I suggest Visual Studio Code or perhaps Antigravity. You could use the free AI that comes with these but they're pretty limited for usage time . I got Visual Studio Code running with Claude Code AI Pro plan which costs just $40 per month and that's working REALLY well for me. Theres quite a number of online assist info pages for you to find out how to go about setting this all up. The advantage of using an AI 'Within' an App building program such as VSC or Antigravity ON your computer is that you can enable the AI to access files on the computer and modify stuff and write code from within the building App. It's really very very useful. I vote for Claude as having tried several AI assistants for Coding Claude seems to be the fastest and make the least errors.

    • Thank you. So much to think about. It feels somewhat overwhelming 😕

  • Use Claude/Claude Code. AI is fantastically capable and end to end apps these days

  • Sure thing. You just need 1 good software developer for about a year. Starting price would be maybe $150k.

  • Claude Design can help you with design related work that rivals some of the things you can do on Figma and Claude Code can build out your project for you and you can then just deploy to Vercel for free. If you want to scale out and turn it into a consumer-based product, then you can just pay for that afterwards. The only thing you really need to pay is just Claude Pro at around $40 a month and if you're just testing the waters, paying a one-off $40 to test all this is worth it in my opinion. Obviously, there are other tools like Antigravity, Cursor, Windsurf, etc that you can use.

    • Thank you. I feel out of my depth. I agree $40 is definitely not much to test it.

      • maybe start with Antigravity, it's free to use and it should be able to build you an app or a website. A website is probably easier to test.

        • I don’t think I need a website. Thank you.

  • Write stuff down/draw pictures of how it will work. Anything physical helps. you can get a rough prototype then refine later. Working on it gives you new ideas. "Honda method"/ self help is Head —> Heart —> Hands. Most people might have good ideas but it never gets to hands/physical stage.

  • Y'know - it does sound pretty complex and indeed it is but AI really helps. Yeah you can use free AI either on a website or built into Visual Studio Code or Android Studio however the free AI's have VERY limited useage and then they shut you out for hours or days and it's really really annoying . Do take some time to learn more about what you're trying to do . Have fun, play around. And when you feel you have things a bit more sorted pay the $40 for a month of Claude Pro and install Claude into your chosen Coding App (VSC or Android studio etc). Be aware that getting the end product, (your app), out to the public after you've built it is going to be a bit of a mission. Google have announced that it's going to be MUCH harder to get apps onto the PlayStore. I'ts going to be MUCH more complex to create and get 'out there' as you want to make the app useable on both Android & Apple. They're quite different systems. I don't even know anything about the programming (coding), requirements for Apple so I can't help there but maybe if you build an Android app first it's going to give you a real insight into the requirement/issues/challenges and then if you feel you want to you can carry that through to Apple. Good Luck and don't give up. I got into this as computing and programming have been an interest of mine for many years . Programming (coding as they now call it) can be VERY complex but you have a huge advantage in using AI to build for you now.

    • Thank you so much. I hope to get somewhere…as long as my patience allows. Your words are very supportive. :)

  • I'm no website or app developer, but the advice I was once given is:
Start with a website. That way it's open to all users initially. Wix is very easy to start with. Basically click and drag. You can also import your own images etc.

      • Your comment is very condescending and insulting. I hope that it made you feel better.

        • Thanks :-)

  • Paid for?
    Free to public
    Paid advertising
    Multiple information
    Android and Apple
    Maps
Many working parts i guess. It's an idea I've had for a couple of years. On one social media platform I have 13k followers in my group and 7k personal followers.
