Or to shop around and ask for a good cash discount especially at the end of a financial year. It used to be quite common to get discounts and there are tactics you can use with sales agents. But more and more brands are preventing being able to get discounts it seems. We got a 20% discount on our car years ago but that same brand now don’t allow dealers to discount them

Probably trying to protect their images and devaluing their wifer brand. Be good to know a list of new or used brands that are still willing to budge. When you consider the price they sell these vehicles for in China vs here it's a huge difference. Yes there's tax, import fees and transit bjt when a car is $10k USD there and more like $30k USD here you have to ask if those things really account for the price difference.

Agree.. the boss at home is adamant !!

I think Farmlands has a decent discount on BYD cars?

They had one late last year with up to $8K discount, but I dont think thats still active.

I personally would stick to the top jap brands for reliability

How would that work? You want someone to buy a car for you, and you transfer them the funds after?…

Subscribed just to find out how this ends….

Hmm.. Didn't think through obviously.. I was hoping to know what's available.. Then may be I have friend/connection working there…usually can be used for friends and family as well I thought..

I've bought a brand new vehicle using a couple of credit cards, OP could do that.

How do you do that? When I bought my almost new (3-year old) car from dealer they put exorbitant fee on credit cards so we opt for the bank transfer.

Agreed - I don't know of any dealer that would NOT pass on the credit card fees (directly or indirectly), so it would never work out in your favour compared to a bank transfer.

Was at a Yamaha motorbike dealer in Upper Hutt, 13k on Amex, 8k on Westpac card. No fees.

If you'd negotiated further, they would likely have given you a further discount for cash (bank transfer) unless they were complete idiots, which seems unlikely, but cannot be totally ruled out!
