    I guess the "no discounts anymore" strategy isn't going so well.

      I guess the "no discounts anymore" strategy isn't going so well.

      It will take quite some time to move away from that. You can't just suddenly re-position your product as 'upmarket' after being 'bargain basement' for years.

      They have to do it gradually, over a period of time, reducing the frequency and quantum of the discounts. They also need to increase their baseline prices significantly (50% - probably more), but they can't do that all at once either.

      Also, the stores don't look premium - they were designed to appeal to the bottom end and compete with KFC etc. If your 'place' is out of kilter with the rest of your marketing, it just won't work. Too many stores are located too close to the likes of KFC (which made perfect sense for both chains when they were competing for the same market segment) - terminating leases and re-fitting new locations is also not happening overnight.

      This particular audience won't understand it, and will likely down-vote this comment, which will pretty much prove my point, but it's necessary if Domino's want to survive ongoing.

      Of course, I will miss the $3 pizzas :-)

        very well said. The downvote was uncalled for. I logged in to give you an upvote so it balances out.

            @rolex: Thank you both :-)

            The sad thing is just how many people fail to understand that, if Domino's goes bust, it will be negative for pricing across the whole market from a consumer perspective.

            If only, even the most simple, basic economics were taught as a core subject at school, at least up to Yr10, the country would end up in a far better place in twenty years.

    • My local has been doing half price Tuesdays (on gourmet and the other gourmet ones) for a few weeks now. They were discount-less for maybe 3 or 4 weeks total? Sure, it ain't the best pizza in the world, but what is when you can get a mega meat lovers for $8?

  • Note in case anyone finds it useful: the regular price for Traditional is $14-15, and for Gourmet is $18. I assume some stores' prices will vary but probably not by much.
