its my go to oil, just a "good" oil that goes on sale fairly often, people compare it to Mobil 1 which is the oil my dealership used when I last got my car serviced. I'm no engineer but I suspect for a normal car any of the major brands would perform similar as long as it meets the brands standard. Castrol edge just seems to have a sale on right around when I do my oil change.
I was wondering if this is a good oil for RAV4 2.0 Petrol non-Hybrid? Supercheap seemed to think it isn't compatible, but Repco seemed to suggest it is.
I used Penrite 5W-30 oil last year, but was wondering if this is suitable or not
What age is your RAV4? The oil pictured has an API rating of SL which has long been superseded by more recent ratings i.e. SN, SP
From Google:
"API Service Category SL, introduced in 2001, is designed for gasoline engines in 2004 and older passenger cars, SUVs, and light-duty trucks. SL oils offer superior sludge control and high-temperature performance compared to SJ and earlier ratings. While often used for older vehicles, they are generally backwards compatible, but newer API ratings (SN/SP) are recommended for 2005+ engines."
It's 2017 RAV4. Sorry, I'm a newbie on this thing. Have just learnt how to change the oil myself last year
This won’t meet the minimum standard of API SN required for your RAV 4.
Double check the manual to see what oil viscosity your car needs as well, most newer cars will require 0w-20 but can use 5w-30. I’m pretty sure the rav 4 recommends 0w-20 but your manual will tell you.
@jrunv: I'll check the manual again. Pretty sure it recommends 5W-30 and that was what AA used the years before when I used them for oil change.
head to castrol nz website, they have an oil finder section where you can select vehicle or just pop your rego in.

It appears the current 5w30 is the listed oil for your vehicle.
@icecold: In my manual it does say:
0W-20, 5-20, 5W-30 and 10W-30:
API Grade SL, SM or SN or ILSAC
15W-40:
API Grade SL, SM, or SN multigrade engine oil.
Doesn't SL offer better engine anti wear compared to fuel economy of newer oil. I purchased this for 2015 bmw 220i as it has bmw long life 1 standard, didn't pay attention to api rating.
Thanks. Brought one with gift card redeemed with Airpoints.
Thank you hot oil and filter for $80😁
Purchased 3x of these at $46 via the mitre10 price beat, thanks!
Brought 2x of these at Mitre10 thanks for share.
I bought 4 of these from repco yesterday, didn't think of price matching through mitre. Is this actually good oil? They said bmw long life 1 which is why I got it for 2017 220i and 2015 435i.
