damn, that is very decent price. I just saw on the news Olive oil prices have steadily dropped recently

  • Oh nice, thanks for sharing - didn't know they did olive oil.

(Any Cheapies checked the current shelf stock as to it's likely quality level : Where was is it produced now ?. and is the current stock stating "cold pressed or "cold extracted". ?).

Zooming in on the label it says ‘Packed in Italy’, so you know that means the best quality olives that Romania has to offer.

The old Warehouse Extra Virgin was Spanish and was great quality. This new 'packed in Italy' stuff isn't so good. But the price is OK.

Costco is a good place to get decent Extra Virgin in bulk. They have a couple of good aussie brands which are much more likely to be authentic than the corrupt Italian olive industry.

      • I'm curious to know if "packed in Italy" means it only processes the blend of olives from various countries, which again, curious to know why would they not mention which countries olives are sourced from - not that I am too concerned, just that it's amusing.

      • They probably bought olives in Spain, that’s a very common practice there.

  • Update for us : I've passed by a Warehouse this arvo & looked at this stock. Yep interesting the bottle states "Packed in Italy". (So product sourced from ? , or maybe even blended from different nations supply… However another question was is this product the much better "Cold Pressed or Cold Extracted" processing ? And that is not stated on the labelling so can we take that as a big "no it's not". (?). The Pak N Save Pams 1 litre bottle offer label states "Made in Spain" & from "Spanish Olives", and is "Cold Extracted". I brought several bottles for $15 each. :). (Very important to try to slow down the oil going rancid in longer storage, that that a Natural Food Oil like this is stored in the coolest darkest place in the kitchen. Not the fridge as I found it turns into an un-pourable cold sludge like consistency.).

    • We also found that it goes quite viscous in the refrigerator.

However, it seems to return to normal after about ten minutes in the air (in the summer at least) and, from what we could tell, there were no ongoing issues with it, but I am no expert in olive oil :-)

    • I've bought litres of the stuff and it has never gone rancid, or even any hint of a bad odour, even sitting in the cupboard for months.
