thank you. sounds like worth it to have it up for 1 year

why 1 year? is there no annual card fee for the first year?

The fee is charged 6 monthly right so $40? after you get the cash back can you just cancel the card?

Correct

I applied last time and looking to cancel in 6 months , but might keep it as there are no better alternatives . Also have Amex plats

"Offer is not transferable or redeemable for cash", is it not cash to start with?

It is as much cash as a visa gift card is cash

I'm guessing as it says $300 will be paid to the credit card account, it'll be "cash" as a credit in your account.

Am I correct by saying this is the highest earning non-amex rewards credit card currently on offer? 1% cashback if you treat it like cash and use for redemtion at new world and pak n save.
I'm currently with BNZ but they have recently devalued so likely switching to ASB.

TSB has a credit card that has the same cashback but its actually cashback right to the credit card, that cards annual fee is $90 yearly though

Yeah I'm using tsb so I guess this is better as it have $80 yearly fees + $300 cashback. That's like a no brainer

Oh that's true. I was with TSB when the cashback was around 1.3%, then switched to BNZ for 1.1%, and after their devaluation I'm looking for something else.

Yes, I cancelled my BNZ CC last week and signed up for this ASB CC. So far, only ASB and TSB have similar offers but ASB gives $300 credit to start with. I rather join ASB than TSB. I have another CC with SBS. My impression is the small banks are too conservative to give a high limit.

Likewise needing to switch from BNZ. Currently have a joint BNZ account but I just went to the ASB page and have to go into a branch to set up a joint ASB account. Makes me think just get hubby and I set up as individuals, each get the cashback and then cancel one card after the cash back comes through and then work out how to join accounts later on? Is it wrong to both get the cashback?

Nothing wrong with taking a little from these greedy banks with record profits year after year.

Fair enough. A supplementary card only costs $15 a year.

Just a straight upgrade from the $300 in everyday vouchers I guess.

So you would have to spend $8000 per year to break even on the fees? Sharesies spend card looks better in terms of the cashback, due to the lower fee. Also the amount of work they need you to do is excessive when it comes to showing income etc It used to be a simple process

I have that Sharesies debit card which is different from this credit card. Everytime I use a debit card, I have to make sure I have enough funds on the card as it is not a debit card from the bank. Otherwise I have to transfer the funds to the Sharesies card. Generally it took about 1-2 hours for the funds to show up on the card. However, last time it took 48 hours to show on the card. I still like this Sharesies card but it is better to have a high limit CC too.

Sharesies offers cashback on debit card? How does they work, since they won't be charging retailers the credit card surcharge?

Yes, 1% back to invest to any stocks, ETF, funds and etc. This is the new debit card they issued from January this year. Have a look at on their website if you are interested.

It still uses the credit line so at smaller retailers you pay the surcharge

I’d want to take advantage of this but gearing up for a mortgage - I heard that the bank considers the full credit card limit as potential “debt” even if I cancel up to two years prior to the mortgage assessment?

Yep. You can always reduce the credit limit before applying for a mortgage loan then, potentially, increase it again after (if the credit card provider allows you to of course).

Min $8000 limit with Platinum card, afaik.

The way this is advertised and by what I can find online is this is basically a no holds barred $300 credit.
Is there any catch or fine print terms & conditions, which are not apparent, that I would need to be aware of before signing up for this?

transfers from an existing ASB credit card
does that mean if you hold an existing credit card from ASB, you're not eligible? e.g. visa light card

Nah, transfer is for moving a different credit card balance over to create this new one. If you have the ASB app, you'll see transfer as a separate option when you try to apply for a new credit card.
Just holding another credit card shouldn't be an issue.

Guessing 'open' refers to being approved before the 10th of May. Might be a bit late to apply now, woops.
