Replacing Old Insinkerator Waste Disposal

I'm looking to replace my old waste disposal unit. The old model is no longer available on the market. What should I look for to make sure the new model can fit into the existing infrastructure? I don't care so much about the horsepower rating as we rarely use it.

Thanks

Usually most insinkerator are compatible with general fittings. To be on safe side, stick to the same brand.

I took mine out and never replaced it. Just rejig your plumbing. Never missed it. Plumbing supplies shop was super helpful.

If you rarely use it then why not just leave it as is?
You would save yourself some money and not have any issues trying to match up a new one.
The only thing left would be to disconnect the electrics.

    • Was yours under the main sink? I have a small and big sink (next to each other) and the insinkerator is below the small one. I dont know what to do with mine…. maybe just rip it all and just put one big sink.

      • You can get a waste fitting that fits the disposal sink and connect the outlet to the waste from the other sink

        • Mine was a double sink the same., it was really easy to change the plumbing, I think I had to get a new catcher unit, and some sealant, sorry not sure what it was called, met a couple of friendly plumbers there that gave me some pipe glue and a bit of pipe and advice. Im an old girl and got it sorted without any problems

  • I had an insinkerator 55 that started leaking a few months ago (corroded, can't fix it). Comparable model was a 56. Prices were roughly $500 for a new one. I found someone selling a practically brand new one for about $160 on Marketplace. Installation was pretty simple. Difficult part was trying to get the side clips aligned, but once you do that it's easy to twist and clamp it in place. I think removal of old unit and install of new one took me about…20mins? Max.
