Mercury Broadband Price Increase

I got an email from Mercury saying that they will increase FibreMax prices by $4 to $115 per month.
I'm still on the 1 year plan with them and they did the increase just before I have to start paying. :)
Anyone else got the price increments from them?

  • I got it too :(

  • yep! but this means we can cancel without paying fees right?

    • They get back to me quoting fine print that, they are within there rights to update pricing and pricing isn't fixed for the year just the contract. So no way to get out of the deal without paying fees.

Since I signed up for Mercury broadband, they have increased my electricity pricing twice and now broadband pricing, it's not even been an year.
Kind of feels like a trap.

Trap been can't move to a different electricity provider because I still have contract for broadband.
They don't just provide broadband without electricity.
So no backing out without paying fees.
        Catch 22!

Yes, that's the trick with the bundling now. They'll get you in with the cheaper price on one, but bump the price on the other service. I got into your position last year with Contact, so vowed to myself, never again.. ..

@spam: This has been almost always the case. Especially Contact did it always.

That just feels all sorts of wrong. I would have expected that the price makes up a vital part of the contract. If it is not, what are the parts of the contract that the do deem important enough to honor? Even IF that is legally correct (iakal) that is downright misleading behaviour and for that alone I would be avoiding that company at all costs. At the very least they should give you the opportunity to break out of the contract without incurring extra cost (which is the behaviour I believe other companies I have seen do).

          Yeah, this should be investigated.
Thats the whole point of a contract to lock in a price for services.

It would be like if banks just all do that for interest rates, fix for 2 years but they can change the rate if they want

So been digging further i believe they are allowed to change price but they have to allow you to exit with no fees?
