Primate doesn't offer free shipping anymore!?

What is up with Mightyape recently, it used to be my go to shopping site. I just got primate now to buy a couple of things but i'm not getting free shipping for those, have to pay the normal $6 delivery cost. The items i'm after are available in stock locally as well.

I don't see what the point of Primate is anymore then. Sure you get some discounts here and there, and you get points credit, but the value of Primate just dropped significantly

Under the T&C I found these:

*Primate members are eligible for Free Standard Delivery within New Zealand on all eligible items sold by Mighty Ape with a minimum product value of $30 for physical orders. Product eligibility for Free Standard Delivery is displayed on the product page and in the checkout. Free delivery does not apply to items listed by Marketplace Sellers. Additional charges still apply for upgrades like Jungle Express or Evening Express. When a Primate order can’t be shipped in one delivery, we’ll send it in multiple shipments. You’ll only pay the original freight cost (if applicable) - there are no extra charges for additional deliveries. Very large, bulky items such as furniture and appliances that won't fit on our standard courier service are excluded from free delivery.

What are the items that you were trying to buy?

    • Ohh so each item has to have a value above $30? I'm trying to buy 2 books, both around $20 each.

I'm not sure, the way I read it is like that ($30 min for individual product). Best clarify with their staff via online chat?

        • Yeah, cheers for the help.

"eligibility is based per item not total cart value", which is kinda stupid. First time i've seen this.

@peppa: Ridiculous. Another e-commerce that will join Ebgames eventually. This time thanks to Kogan Aus.

          • @peppa: That's just plain ludicrous. 2 x $20 is clearly more valuable than $30. How to lose customers.

  • Yes unfortunately it's just the way of the world. A start-up grows a good reputation. Becomes larger. Becomes a takeover target. Then gets gobbled by a bigger fish who exploits the name. To increase profits they then have to bend things. Reducing support staff. Lower quality goods. Increasing prices. Removing discounts, deals and rewards. I'm sure you can think of many other examples of good companies that have gone the same way.

  • Typically the shipping cost applies to items that are not flagged as 'sold by mighty ape' basically anything they sell via third party sellers will cost you shipping. It's a frustration using their site now, as you have to check every items seller.
