I had essentially stopped using my dosh card. The few big ticket purchases I wanted to make were (if I’m remembering rightly) above the wind cave daily limit they let you add too and the friction of having another account essentially that had walked off money and an annoying topup process wasn’t worthwhile.

It’s sad to see them clawing onto life with one nz credit. Hopefully something changes for them

I’ll have to switch to the sharesies card. But the annual fee sharesies will charge makes it’s benefits less worthwhile and they don’t have Apple Pay yet.

I've switched to Sharesies. It's actually pretty amazing for foreign currency transactions. 0.5% offshore margin but still 1% cashback. That makes it even better than ASB Flex which is 0% offshore margin and no cashback. Since I buy a lot of stuff from Amazon and Aliexpress I think I will easily make back the annual fee when it get applied in Feb.

        • Hey I'm thinking to make the switch. The 1% is in shares and not cashback right? Is it easy to convert that into cash? And I reckon there must be some brokerage etc?

          • +1

@KiwiHunts4CheapDeals: Yes, it's in shares, but there is a wide selection of shares / funds available. There's brokerage buying and selling but it's easy to sell and you might even see a good gain.

"NZ's only debit card that pays you Phone Dollars" - I wonder why haha

This will be the death of them I imagine.

    • Guess is they had to cancel cash back and scrambled to find anything that would make the card worthwhile.

  • +1

The phone dollars require you to signup to a monthly plan by the looks of it. I had about $500 but they expired recently because I couldn’t use them for anything.

  • I don’t think they have yet informed customers of this change which looks like it applies in the 1st Feb

  • +1

Guess I'll go back to SBS visa with 0.67% cashback :(

  • Got the email, applies effective immediately.

    • I have had no email. I thought the cash back applied into the end of January but they have now removed info on that in the app and it just mentions one nz. Looked like I will have to remove my balance and close the account because I don’t want or need what they are offering.

    • Says you still have until January 31st to earn cashback.

Updated the app to be greeted by One NZ slop on the home page 😩

Welp, guess I'll stop using them.

Also, I know they are a business and all, but since they are clearly marketing to younger generations, it sucks to see them pushing these Phone "Dollars", which are just a gateway to interest free plans…

Minor nitpick about Dosh, I found it really annoying that you can't even check your balance when they update their app because they invalidate their old version way too aggressively.
Anyway I'm glad to be able to finally delete this app/card

    • Yep, no internet banking and the inability to have the app on multiple devices was really irritating too.

    • Never had that issue. But I use an iPhone not Android

      • Which will be an ever bigger problem when you face it.

There are ways of getting around version problems with Android. And zero short of jailbreaking (and that is also unlikely to work) with an iPhone.

My physical dosh card just expired and I was 50/50 on whether or not I'd get a new one… Definitely not happening now 😅

    • Mine was close to expiry too. Writing was on the wall unfortunately

    • Don't they just send you a new one automatically free of charge? I got a new one in the mail and I didn't have to do anything

  • Do we need to cancel the card or just throw it away since there's no fee?

Suggest to terminate account and request for data deletion based on Privacy Act 2020.

I supposed they have shared our data with One NZ, I don't wanna get any stupid marketing messages from them down the road.

Sad, but also happy that I have one less card to manage, Bye Dosh!

I have just tried to delete my account, they make it incredibly easy. Just go to App Settings > Close account.

I do wonder if a lot of people start closing their accounts it a bank run situation could occur. I'm definitely not keeping any money in there just in case this happens.

    • no. dosh is just the front end/marketing company. they dont hold any money…. your money is with a NZ bank.. probably one of the big 4.

      • +1

Sure but I have no hope any money would be refunded promptly if they did go under

Just pulled the balance out. Good bye dosh. Card is expiring end of Jan.

Withdrawn, cut up card, waiting until 5th to cancel account for final tenner
Thanks for the deals Dosh, it was a good while it lasted.

  • Glad i didnt migrate to them…

  • So who is the next best thing now that Dosh is a no go?

    • Don't quote me, but I think Sharesies is offering 1% return?

      • There’s a fee so ymmv

      • $25 annual fee, and brokerage.

    • +1

Sharesies card 1% in shares (25 annual fee)

Amex free card returns airpoints. ZERO ANNUAL fee.

      • Unfortunately that's a credit card, so you have t go through the horrible process of supplying a significant amount of data and figures such as your expenses, income etc to them these days. Not worth the hassle imo. Debit cards IMO are far easier to manage and deal with if just wanting cashback and points and apple pay

        • not amex… they dont ask for much. only the NZ banks are caught up in the bureaucracy

@huffboy: You are wrong mate. They asked stupid questions and can't comprehend how joint mortgage works. Rejected cause they seem me as unfit to pay my mortgage and card together which me & my wife shares together. They won't consider my wife's income as another source.

          • @huffboy: This is what they say they need, which is essentially the same as when I tried opening one with a bank recently.

Here's the information we'll need from you:

A copy of your government issued identification (for example driver’s license or passport)
Personal information, including your current address details
A current email address and a mobile or landline number
Details about any other Credit Cards and loans you have and their balances
            Financial information including:
proof of your annual income and employment details (e.g. Inland Revenue Department (IRD) Statement, payslips)
            household income (if married/de facto)
            monthly living expenses,
            superannuation details (if retired)
Details of any other sources of income.
Air New Zealand AirpointsTM Account Number in your name.
