How effective is this microphone at blocking out music or voices coming from behind it? I own several high-end microphones, and they all struggle with this issue. despite supercardioid patterns being designed to isolate directional audio, the sensitivity of these mics means they still pick up sound traveling from behind the capsule—even after adjusting gain settings.

I have a pretty large desk and I have bluetooth speakers placed on the far ends of the desk. My microphone is mounted on a boom arm at the opposite end of the speakers, creating maximum distance from them. However, during e.g. a Teams call, the microphone still picks up the audio from the speakers, causing the other participants to hear an echo of their own voices.

Some of the high end microphones I've used are Blue Yeti, Rode, Audio Technica and a few others that I've stowed away that I don't remember. Current I'm using a Razer Chroma v3 supercardiodid mic and it's still got the same issue as others. The mic quality of them are great and it's clear and you can place them far away from your face and they can still pickup what you're saying really well, but I guess that's also the downside is that they pickup voices too well.

It's tricky, because of all the reflected sound off the walls and objects behind you. What can help is wall treatments of the wall beside and behind you for reflected sounds or using a mic shield behind of the mic to block those no reflected sounds. You should try moving your mic so it's in the middle and closer to you head too.

Since you're using Bluetooth speakers it might be enough of a delay to screw with at least the inbuilt OS /app noise cancellation. Try Nvidia's and go wired.

There's a reason why many podcasts still use headphones with a nearfield boom or lapel mic.

      • I've used noise cancellation apps in the past and they sometimes do an OK job, sometimes they don't. Often times they just end up causing performance issues on my system and I have a pretty beefy system.

During summer, it gets hot around my ears when I use headphones, especially if I'm in a long meeting. That's why I prefer bluetooth speakers. At the moment, my workaround is to use earbuds for everything, which is fine as the echo issue goes away, but I still have to put up with taking out the earbuds and putting them on.

I do have a lavalier/lapel mic, but putting it on is a hassle sometimes.

    • I took delivery of this yesterday and had some time to test it out. I’m glad I went ahead with the purchase — it does exactly what I need.

The RGB lights clearly indicate whether the microphone is muted, and the physical mute button makes it easy to toggle the status on and off.

Most importantly, when I’m using Bluetooth speakers during a Teams call, the microphone doesn’t pick up any audio from the speakers but captures my voice clearly. That’s a huge win. It means that during summer, or whenever it’s hot, I no longer have to deal with a wireless mic, earbuds, or headphones just to avoid echo issues.

I haven't tested out the software yet, but so far this microphone is great, much better than my other expensive mics.
