Shopback Blacklisted by TSB

I was trying to buy gift cards from Shopback using my TSB credit card and it failed. When I contacted the bank, they told them they have blacklisted them because of "high level of fraudulent activity associated with them, which places the merchant outside TSB’s risk appetite".

Anyone had a similar experience?

To be clear, I have used Shopback successfully for cashbacks and have brought gift cards using a Westpac issued card, so this hasn't deterred me from using them yet.

Interesting. Sure would be nice to get some confirmation here. I wonder if they mean people are using stolen cards to buy large volumes of giftcards. That way even if the transaction gets cancelled the scammer might still be able to skim the rewards or something?

    • Why would this be unique to Shopback though?

      • if they get the cashback from the vouchers it's a nice little bonus on top of the scam they already pulled.

Same here, always failed to buy gift cards using tsb. Never realized that it's blacklisted.

  • Have you not seen Paypal Honey business model getting slaughtered online? Many merchants are taking a dim view of the affiliate industry currently. Lots of fraud and double dipping going on.

    • became aware of the Honey lawsuit from being covered on the LTT WAN show but I thought only the creators were affected. Got any links to share that explain how these scams affect the various parties involved?

      • Search megalag on YouTube. Kiwi guy basically covers it all. Part 3 exposes all the losers from the business owners, other affiliates etc.

    Same with ANZ.
During the BF sales, Shopback had upsized cashback on JB Hifi Giftcards. I think it was just for a day. So I wanted to make use of this to purchase items amounting to ~2900. At 5%, the cashback was a decent amount.
I tried purchasing vouchers with my ANZ card and ANZ immediately blocked the transaction and the card. I had to call them to unblock it.
The card was unblocked, but the Shopback app had a 24hr period before I could add the card again.
Had to use my wife's account to purchase the vouchers.

  • I used an ANZ credit card to buy gift cards on shopback about 3 weeks ago with no problems. Wasn't for a particularly high value though. Less than $200.

  • Someone i know had several thousand stolen and it was for Shopback gift cards so the fraud claim is not fake

(They got the money back being a credit card)

That does not mean shopback is the issue, it's just as likely the user used the same email/password on other platforms and it was leaked elsewhere and then used to login to their account or their email address was compromised and password reset to gain access etc.

Thats on the user, that being said given shopback has been targeted several times in the same manor in AU and NZ they could opt not to save all CC details(ie make the user re-enter CVV/CVC etc to complete a transaction).
