When signing up for AMEX you get free lounge passes - does anyone know if supplementary card holders can sign up and get lounge access to?

And - does anyone have any insider tips on any banks offering a credit card signup bonus in the near future?

  • I can't find where it says, but I've not previously not been able to get lounge passes on the supplementary card

    • This is on the airpoints platinum card

Just tried enrolling for priority pass on supplementary account - no luck. Also when you go to use the passes, even though you have two, it only is for the main card holder and you have to pay for companions.

Interesting, I used one of my passes to go into the Priority premium lounge at Brisbane and they let the family in free. Although the dude working didn't seem to care much so could have just been him :D

Granted the lounge was utter shit, so went back over to Koru which is around 5000x better.

  • Pretty sure yes.

Have a read of ozbargain, almost sure I saw someone describe that last week :)

Thanks - wondering if it's different for aussie based on dealhunter's reply

    • Without reading I am going to guess that's the amex plat charge card that is no longer offered in NZ

      • ahh okay, that makes sense :)

Hi. Amex Airpoints Platinum Card holder.

For centurion lounge passes, the account gets TWO per calendar year. It can be used by either the primary cardholder or supplementary, no need for primary to be in attendance. Note TWO per account, NOT per card.

For Priority Pass TWO entries per membership period. Only the PRIMARY cardholder can apply for Priority pass.

There is no free guests for either option on the NZ Amex Airpts Platinum. You can always pay. Can’t remember the price off the top of my head, 60USD maybe it was?

    Hope this helps.

I found these term on the Centurion T&C:

American Express Centurion®, American Express® Platinum, American Express® Business Platinum and American Express® Corporate Platinum Card Members have unlimited access to The Centurion® Lounges for each American Express Card Account and are entitled to bring children 17 years of age or younger and up to two guests into the lounge.

All other eligible Card Members as outlined below are entitled to a total of two entries per calendar year (1 January to 31 December). The two entries may be used by the Primary Card Member, an Additional Card Member or a guest travelling with a Card Member. Complimentary access is offered to Card Member’s children aged 17 years or younger.

So I believe, under Amex Airpoints Platinum, it's the second term.

      • Yes. Sorry I forgot that they actually changed it end of '24 (I think) that a guest can also use one of TWO centurion lounge entries, as long as they accompany a cardholder (whether primary or supplementary).

    • Hi. Same card here and havent used the passes at all yet. Heading to Aus in a couple months with my wife and 2 kids and was hoping to use the passes, one lot in Melbourne, other in Auckland. I've got the Priority Pass app, so have the two passes through that. But how do you use the Centurion lounge passes in Melbourne sorry? is it just present the card?

  • Does anyone know about the westpac world mastercard priority pass? Do they come with the dining perk or is that removed like the american express cards?

  • With the international lounges, do you need to be on an international flight to go into them? Sounds like a dumb question but I fly domestic all the time and international very rarely. Have never been able to use the AMEX lounge benefits even though I'm at AKL airport flying through many times a year.

In Auckland, domestic and international are different terminals?

      • Yeah I know just thinking if I had plenty of time to kill I could hop over to international if you don't actually have to be on that kind of flight to get in. Dumb idea really but it would be handy

        • Pretty sure you need a boarding pass to proceed to security!

@thesnek: Yep - definitely, and a boarding pass for a domestic flight won't get you through security in the international terminal, but the attempt might get you a free visit to a room somewhere else in the terminal!

  • Anyone recently applied to Amex Airpoints Platinum?
Got a call this morning said system rejected application.
I was wondering whether the system only consider my income and not my partner's but applying the shared expenses.

    • Yeah if you’re applying with 1 income, split the expenses appropriately.

      • that's a bit misleading as the form only state household expenses.

Won't be good to re-apply straight away right? probably have to wait 3 months?

        • I had the same issue last year. Spoke to CS about the rejection and he didn't budge saying they can't accept spouse's income as it was individual application. Reason for rejection was mortgage & expenses didn't cover my income. It was bull and I had no patience to fight it. I couldn't reduce my expenses as mostly all are through my credit card. So hard to make them half.
