I had a free trial of chat gpt+ & actually found it super useful! I even paid for a couple of extra months but I have had to cancel as its so expensive! Around $40 a month any ideas on how to get it any cheaper? Wondering if it would be possible to share an account & the cost? Or does anyone have a workplace that pays for it? How does that work? Any thoughts TIA

im Nigerian and never thought to try this. ill see if i can get it working with my Nigerian debit card

I dont think I know how to do that!

Work pays for my enterprise license so unsure if this works, but it'd be like:
- Buy $6 USD from here https://www.g2a.com/category/gift-cards-c6?f%5Bregions%5D%5B…
- Use a free VPN provider and switch your country to Nigeria. Heaps of free VPN addons on Chrome/Firefox.
- Once VPN is turned on, try buy the pro subscription for the amount listed

I know OP is asking about ChatGPT so this is a bit OT, but I think "use a free VPN provider" needs some further warning.
There are indeed heaps of VPN providers that are free, including many browser extensions. Free VPN is a hotly contested area where mostly the old adage holds true, "if you're not paying for the product, then you are the product". Building and supplying a public VPN service, especially one that has servers all over the world, is very expensive and they have to pay for it somehow.
In my experience free VPN falls into these categories, and personally I'd only use the last two:
- Truly "free" VPN app/extensions that have (generally very slow and limited) servers, and that will either sell your browsing data, inject ads, sideload adware/spyware, or even more insidious behaviour like skimming credit card and login details. If you're determined to go down this route, choose very carefully and be sure to uninstall it as soon as you're done. Purchasing a gift card beforehand is good advice, don't enter your credit card details while the extension is installed.
- Paid VPNs with a limited free tier. These will generally be limited to a handful of basic or random locations, and often have capped data and/or speed. Be aware there are scummy providers out there. Some trusted options: Opera, Proton, Windscribe. This is unlikely to allow you to connect to Nigeria.
- Paid VPNs with a free trial period or (more likely) upfront payment but with a money back guarantee. Some trusted options: Nord, Surfshark, IPVanish.

Agree with this person. I've tried free vpns, free Proton vpn and have now been with Proton Unlimited for the past 3 years and also Astrill. Can attest that paid VPN is so much better than free/ limited free tier ones

There's not a lot of difference between the AI tools so just find a cheaper one. Gemini has a pretty good free tier, co pilot is presumably also decent enough.
AI is probably just going to continue getting more expensive so get used to moving around for the latest deals
Gemini is like $37 a month and I find it far better than Chat gpt. Additionally, you can share it with 6 other people in your household.

Oh wow ill look into it

i didn't know this! is this via google Family?

Correct

Get ChatGPT Go via Indian VPN, 12 month free trial an then a few bucks a month

Get an account at app.outlier.ai and you'll have access to all the top tier models for free, no limits. And you might receive some tasks that you can accept or decline, if you do then you get paid. If you just want to use the AI Playground for free, you can do so without doing any tasks.

What! Really??

Yes. I'm using it and all the top models like Claude Opus, which generally cost x4 or back then x20 token costs in Windsurf / Cursor / Kiro are all freely accessible, among all the other models from OpenAI, Google, etc. I was surprised too by this. I mean, I already have Gemini Pro (from a previous Cheapies post) and I don't use it as much. I much prefer solutions that give me multiple models to choose from in case I want to have more control. I'm in the AI game long enough to know what models are good for what and so I tend to switch between them a lot. Outlier AI seems to offer them all for free, at least for now anyway.

I just did it & it works thank you! Genius!

@liz181: No problem. By the way, if you can figure out how to edit a previous prompt, let me know. It seems very basic but they don't offer this functionality, which is annoying as sometimes the context is important and you're already like 5 prompts into the conversation, but then the 6th prompt isn't exactly phrased correctly and the answer provided is just rubbish and I can't go back and edit the prompt to get a better answer. Instead, I have to create a 7th prompt to correct the 6th prompt, but sometimes when you're asking code related questions, the answer it gives can include wrong or bad code that it generated from a previous answer. It has to try to undo some of the newly generated stuff and give you a better one and sometimes that undo process sucks. I often end up just creating a new chat directly so it starts fresh.

Unsure if still works but loophole was buy Nigeria visa gift card from g2a. Turn on VPN to Nigeria and buy a subscription for $6/month.
