Pricing Issues
Price integrity is important to us. We work hard to make sure you are charged the correct price, but if you are overcharged for a product, we will refund you the full amount paid for product and you can keep the product for free.*

A few conditions including the product must cost less than $30 and only applies to the first item of multiple items are purchased.

So if I buy some apples for incorrect price, would it apply to the first Apple? 😂

So if I buy some apples for incorrect price, would it apply to the first Apple? 😂

Surely it would apply to the entire weight of apples purchased…

You should make sure to purchase several hundredweight (not the smaller US version of course) if you spot a pricing error, pay, leave the store, then return to customer services and claim your prize :-)

  • That must have had an update in the past as well. Bought multiple coffee products a few years ago and they had incorrect pricing. Checkout lady was quite happy to give me multiple for free.

  • They seem to be getting better at honouring errors. I got 3x1kg packs of cherries for $2.89 each due to an error on the New World website. They originally cancelled it but then changed their mind and honoured it.

  • The problem with with this sort of policy is that it is other customers that likely end up paying due to the cost having to be paid by someone. So likely prices increase as a result so margins can be retained

Can’t imagine it’d be more than 1 per store everyday

      • I'm Canada I bought the same for the same price error at the same store every week for about 4 months before they fixed it. Conversely another item they fixed it literally as soon as I pointed it out at check out.

        • I did it some time ago at one supermarket and got something worth $50 for free.

I'm sure they make far more money from incorrectly priced goods, where they're charging more than the special price/ticket price, than they'd lose via this policy. How many people properly check their receipt everytime they shop? It's possibly why some chains are also pushing people to electronic receipts - they'll tell you it's for the environment but I'm cynical.

      • Yes, these days they always asks if you want the receipt and I find most people say no, don’t worry about it. Despite the fact that if the food product is defective, they can’t do much about getting it replaced etc without proof of purchase. I always check my receipt and mistakes are quite common.

      • One thing I have also noticed is that the supermarkets have stopped the handheld self scan option, which allowed you to scan and check the price as you scanned. We used to find quite a few errors when we did that.

        • Still have the self scanners at PNS Papanui.
Used it on our last shop just a few days ago

          • @bigcheese: OMG, I haven't seen a self scanner in years/decades, shout out to the owners at PNS Papanui for keeping them.

        • That’s odd. They definitely toned them down, but they’re still in most of the foodies stores in chch if I’m not wrong.

  • Electronic ticketing has virtually eliminated pricing issues in all WW and FS stores now so this is likely why they have now rolled this out. I used to benefit from this semi frequently at WW but not once since they started with the electronic ticketing.

    • I have actually seen the electronic tickets update and change price as I viewed them in some stores, not in supermarkets though. They also sometimes display the stock number on them. But it begs the question what happens if it updates between the time you pick it off the shelf and when you get it to the till.
