Upright Freezer Recommendations 388ltr and above

Hi, our F&P 388ltr vertical freezer motor is constantly running. Sadly its 24 years old, so time for a new one.
But F&P only appear to now do very expensive intergrated ones, which we don't want, our one lives in our garage.
Can anybody recommend another brand please?

I would suggest re-considering an upright freezer.

We went from a chest to upright a while back, and there are few purchases I have regretted more.

The storage space (in a like-for-like litre capacity) is far smaller in an upright, than a chest freezer (the shelves restrict your options, reducing effective capacity by at least a third in my estimation), plus it is much harder to see what you've got stored in there. I could empty our chest freezer from full in about 90 seconds, but with the upright it takes ages (or is just too much hassle to even bother).

If you only have a small floor-space into which you have to fit it, then you might have no option but to go again with an upright, but we would never buy another.

    • Thanks Alan, I went from a chest to an upright. I know what you mean. But I do find the uprights easier to access stuff. I have found it easier to have designated baskets for different things.

Fair enough - for me the useable space was more important, but I would also note that if you don't fill it up, then the upright is no worse in that respect.

        • Hi Alan, just thought I would mention, if you want a F&P chest freezer. I would look at them now, as F&P's website has the words OUTGOING on their current 3 models and no newer models listed, so looks like they may not be doing them anymore.
If I had know they were going to delete their uprights I would of replaced mine then.

    • Which upright did you buy?

I got this one from Harvey Norman a couple of months ago. No complaints, 384L for just under $1100. We have it on our garage.

    • Thanks, thats unusual that it can be a fridge or a freezer

yeah not sure how many people would switch between it being a freezer to being a fridge.

theres a super freeze function thats quite handy, drops it to -24C so awesome when you want to freeze a bunch of fresh meat or fish for example, the quicker the freeze the better the quality

I remember seeing one upright freezer sometime back in Costco. Can't remember how much it was.

Edit: I think it is this Midea. Looks like around $340

    • Thanks, I will have a look.

We have had one of these for the past year or so, and its great - https://www.100percent.co.nz/beko-404l-vertical-freezer-bvf4…

  • Thanks, I was looking at that one last night. I do like the 5 year guarantee.

  • 60 or 70cm width? I’m guessing by the volume you had 70cm. I bought this 60cm one recently and it’s been good. But if you have 70cm to spare then look for that width to get the volume. The LG brand does well in consumer tests.

    • Thanks Patrick, yes I looked at that one, they don't seem to do the next size up sadly, my one is baskets all to the top and a 388ltr.

This 384L Hisense one is often on sale at Harvey Norman for $1099: https://www.harveynorman.co.nz/whiteware/refrigeration/singl…

Can't comment on the quality of the brand but here's a 431L option for $999 from Trade Depot: https://tradedepot.co.nz/431l-upright-fridge-or-freezer-blac…
