30% off Storewide (Excludes Hardware, Digital Currency & Gift Cards) @ EB Games

180

Following the 20% off everything deal they've now stuck another 10% off bringing the total up to 30% off.

Previous 20% deal: https://www.cheapies.nz/node/54171

I've asked if they can refund the difference on my 20% order but their customer service states a 7-10 day response which will push it outside of the return window so your mileage may vary on that.

This is part of Boxing Day Sales for 2025

Makes me wonder if they have financial issues. Surely selling games that came out in the last few days or so at a 30% discount is not viable long term.

I just called 2 stores about my purchase last week and head office has apparently issued a hard no on refunding the difference from the 20% sale. So they would like me to drive to store, return it, lie about my repurchase intention and then just buy them again anyway. To be fair the girl on the phones attitude was pretty much we know this is stupid but that's what we got told to do. Annoyingly my return window closes tomorrow and I'm really not sure I can face a mall and eb games on Christmas eve 🤣

Strangely, some were on better deals with the B1G1F promo

I am in the same boat, bought a number of items when it was 20% off. I just wouldn’t be bothered to return and purchase them back again. It’s also kind of stupid that I pre-ordered a game for full price and after 2 days it dropped the price by 20%. If I waited for a few days to pick up my pre-order, I would have gotten the 20% off. In terms of the return window, I remember a staff told me it’s a month for items purchased over the Xmas period. So worth checking with the store if you are planning to return it even after the standard return window.

Logitech G29 seems to be a really good deal if anyone is interested in sim racing. I just purchased a second hand g29 wheel two weeks ago which I could have waited for this deal. https://www.ebgames.co.nz/product/pc/209948-logitech-g29-dri…

  • Just grabbed 512gb SD Express card and Split Fiction at Botany branch.

    Great bargain!

Been tossing up getting these, I was watching the atrix ones as ozbargain had the 256gb for $28 earlier in the week, was hoping our boxing day sale would match it.

Notbadtech have a Samsung 256GB one for $49. Cheapest I could find it for.

        • These are microsd express not micro sd cards. They are more like an nvme SSD but in micro sd format so much faster to use. They are pretty rare to find with SanDisk being the main one you see and the current offer at ebgames is a good price that I don't think we'll see beaten with current storage pricing patterns. A normal SD card is useless in a switch 2.

To quote @Flippant from the 20% deal
"$7.20 for a new copy of Starfield, at that price it's almost worth buying, almost."

$6.30 for a new copy of Starfield, at that price it's almost worth buying, almost.

    • With a Stargate SG-1 mod it is almost worth buying.

Did a click and collect in riccarton eb games, man they are depressing stores now. Heard about 3 customers enquire about items to be told they have no stock. The game selection in there is woeful, two tiny shelves of games on each platform, they've just turned in to pushing gaming paraphernalia and there was barely anything left there worth buying. I was going to order from hornby but they had even less available that I was after.

I did get my sd express card though, $105 for a 512gb is as good as I think it's getting anytime soon with the current ai bubble inflating all memory and storage pricing.

    • How are the Atrix brand cards? I have a SanDisk that I only just recently got but in this stupid age of Game Key Cards 256GB isn't much. :(

      • I haven't really used it yet all I can report is it showed up as a card I can store games on, I didn't need the storage yet but mainly jumped on it as I don't see us getting a cheaper option anytime soon.

Nintendo games are still fantastically optimized compared to third party titles so over 700gb of space is a shed load of first party goodness, and the first party ones all ship complete on the cards. I don't really understand their 64gb minimum on the cards, I'll be interested to see if the storage pricing hikes impact game card pricing and they up the prices more. It could be the thing that saves their key card concept that everyone hates.

I did purchase sparks of hope as well as a code in a box, I think that practice is far worse than keycards, shipping boxes with a printed number. No issue with buying codes if they are cheap like this was but eb games particular sting you a lot for posting you a switch box instead of just emailing the code out for free or issuing a scratch card. Surprises me that the console makers and games stores haven't come up with something better between them for selling digital purchases where the game store takes a cut to stay in business. I'd much prefer the game shops have games you can play like when we were kids and you could buy from the display version. Would also love to see them have unboxed peripherals to try before purchasing, turn the shop in to a reason to visit experience for buying games.

  • 30% off is a great deal for first-party Nintendo Switch 2 accessories.

    • Having been in there for this 30% off deal we saw this coming. As said a I've their stores are incredibly depressing now with almost no games in stock.

I went in today and saw 3 staff members just standing about chatting with nothing to sell.

    • I was wondering why they had removed all pre-orders from their website and disabled click and collect. Makes sense now, but a real shame.

  • +1

What a shame, they got a lot of hate but I really like my local EB Games. I will miss going to it a lot. And they offered things we wouldn't get here otherwise (shiny Pokemon codes etc) and now that will just be all gone. :(

Anyone who had been shopping there over the years knew full well 30% off everything was a really odd sale for them, writing was on the wall.

  • I have only been shopping with them in the past 5 years or so and I am a level 5 member. I do love their trade-in offers for the new games and it’s really sad to see them closing. Having said that, their stores are usually pretty quiet. Went to two EBGames in SYD and one in Canada last year and they were not much better, so they will likely to close more stores in the coming years. For NZ, I’m guessing they will soon do a closing down sale, although most popular products are probably gone by now.
