Is this a miracle? No mandatory ping payment needed…

    No ping payments required woahhhh

Didn't think this would happen this close to Christmas.

TradeMe must be struggling for them to remove Ping. I honestly think that Facebook Marketplace is eating all their profits.

    • +10

Probably. I was thinking of the other day how much better ebay is, for buying, filters, searching…

Trademe is really bad. Like I can't even filter to get rid of drop ship rubbish.

Yeah I had been using bidbud for all trademe search but bidbud slowly dying so I had to try & use trademe for somethings, I found their search unusable. Not to mention it constantly pushes MFA login even though I have opted out numerous times on my account, it's a steaming pile of dog doo these days.

        • +1

Unsure why you would opt out of MFA? there's a reason so many accounts get taken over and used for scams on Trade Me. Not saying yours would, but it happens a lot

@kfr23: It’s fair, not everyone wants to download a separate app for that and deal with the extra steps.

Best used w/ a password manager for easy OTPs

Facebook marketplace has probably killed a lot of their business.

I recently sold a laptop on marketplace for $1k. The trademe fee and ping would’ve been close to $100. It’s just not worth it

I'm a fan of Ping, I much prefer it when a listing offers it

Why can't sellers have the choice?

WTF is wrong with NZ Bank Transfers?

PING Buyer Security is not to be trusted, too easy for buyers to scam sellers.

With PING, you as a buyer are effective paying more and/or the seller is getting less.

Agreed it offers some convenience when the items a low value item but its very costly for high value items.

Did you know in their infinite 'wisdom' TM (aka TradeGlitch) recently forced PING onto all NZ In Trade Sellers with that enshittification being the last straw for many.

Many do not have nor want/need credit cards, so are unable to buy so plainly the seller cannot sell/misses those sales.

The whole site is the epitome of dysfunction/enshittification nowadays, TradeGlitch might consider knocking off say 75% of the costs associated in using it or it will continue to be abandoned.

They keep increasing prices, reducing functionality and don't seem to understand their market at all.

      • "WTF is wrong with NZ Bank Transfers?"
There's almost no security with a bank transfer.
When your item doesn't arrive, and the seller says they sent it, you have no easy path to resolution. I've lost enough on a few purchases this way to be very cautious of it.

        • Nah,

We've sold 6 figure items via Bank Transfer zero problem.

Banking in NZL doesn't require PING, sorry, makes zero sense.

What and how have your issues been created, can you elaborate why ?

          • -1

@rolex: Win an auction. Seller gives their bank details. I transfer payment. They say the item was sent, but it never arrives. This happened with sellers who have over 50 & 200 positive feedback. Call the bank and say I want the payment reversed. They ask about fraud, and I explain the situation. They say there's nothing they can do.

            • @RockCartel: Interesting

So … Proof of Payment sans Proof of Delivery but TM doesn't assist ?

              • @rolex: Trade Me doesn't have the legal power to enforce a trade. Where we're not able to help, the Disputes Tribunal can step in.
Sellers Details: Trade Me can, at its absolute discretion, release this information directly to you or to the Disputes Tribunal for this purpose.

I don't blame Trademe for this. They have obligations under the privacy act.
It really comes back to buyer beware. A bank transfer is unsecured. So the payer caries the burden of risk.
