I thought this offer might benefit a few people.
Got an A56 for the old man for $449.10 which brings it around the price of an A36. I've got the A55 which serves me well. In a nutshell A56 get slight boost in specs but drops the microsd card.

Read somewhere these are the Toyota corollas of smart phones and tend to agree. Might get better specs on others but the 5+ years of support on this gives it more longevity. Additionally it's a bit easier to get cases, protectors and works nicely with other samsung things.

This is part of Black Friday / Cyber Monday deals.

These models are crazy good mid range phones. Excellent selection of cameras which compare well to much higher spec machines.

lol I’ll tone down the hyperbole then.

The A5x range has been really solid. The A52 has vibes of the Nokias in that it’s still performing well years later. If someone is looking for a phone like the OP this is a good option and price.

          100% agree.

And i think your original assessment was correct , for the price this phone is crazy good!

I would challenge our friend above from the language police to post any deal for a phone which is a better for the same or less and we'll see if it does just as well.

What phone can you suggest that's better and in stock for $500 or less?
The $500 limit is the most that work will approve to replace our team phone. I can't pay more out of my pocket, they need a GST invoice for $500 or less.

        • Oppo Find X5 Pro 5G 256GB - Ceramic White - New at "talk is cheap" $456 top of the range specs even though it's an older model but would leave the Samsung well behind.

@pdevonporf: It shows $550 for me. Do you need a code?

            • @RockCartel: When you go to check out you automatically get a 17% discount on that price

          • @pdevonporf: Thats a pretty good deal

          • @pdevonporf: Im also looking for a high quality phone for under $600 $700, except i dont know whether or not to go with the oppo now or wait for something else potentially. Mostly need the phone for multiapping and video simultaneously, my current phone cant handle it. What do you think?

          • @pdevonporf: It won't be leaving it behind on battery life lol, that Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 runs hot and draws a lot of power

            • +1

@kfr23: That's funny when it came out it had one of the highest ratings for battery life. It also has a vapour chamber cooling system. Oppo Find X5 Pro 5G when it was launched cost $1800

              • @pdevonporf: I had the phone, and it was bad on battery. Everything else with the phone was good though. I know how much it retailed for because I purchased it.

These actually get proper security updates unlike most other cheap devices. So for that alone, Samsung A series are worth it.

      • +1

I can't see many others updating their mid tier to the newest os for 4 years with an extra year of security updates. As much as Samsung can be a pain at least they now support their devices for more than 12 months.

Only thing I'd like to see them add to the A5x line is wireless charging. Was hoping now Google added it to the pixel A line that Samsung would follow suit.

        • I was pretty disappointed to confirm the latest does not have an expandable SD card option.

          • +2

@Jaxson: I honestly don't miss the sd cards. 256gb is more than I need in a phone and if it fills up archiving to my nas or cloud storage frees up space again. Add to that a decent phone plan and if I need stuff I can get it.

  • +3

I have the A55 and love it; I don't feel I need to upgrade anytime soon.
I am disappointed to hear they dropped the SD card slot on the A56, tho.

    • +2

Yea similar boat, looks to be they way things are going.. headphone jack, microsd, dual sim next.?

      • +1

At least eSIM has trickled down to the a5x range.
Shame about the SD card though.

    • +1

yep going the way of apple wanting you to spend a lot more money just to get a phone with more storage when getting an sd card would be much cheaper

  • Is it oos already ?

    • I've just checked app and looks that way. I ordered the graphite yesterday morn as was only option then tried to get another but only pink was left. So might come in stock if you're lucky.

      • +2

I wasnt looking to buy one, was just going to see if i get it to a lower price with coupon combos n report back if i could

  • +1

Would this work out cheaper than the EPP or Education Store?

    • Was $599 on there last night when I checked

  • Currently out of stock. But it might be back for tomorrow. They seem to be refilling some of the stock daily.

  • Thanks OP. Available again
