Secret Santa Gift Ideas for around $30

Doing Secret Santa at work. We work in a tech company so maybe something related? Wondering if anyone has seen good deals around $30 that could be considered as a good gift. Thank you

Some good garden secateurs were popular at our Secret Santa last year

    • random but i like it 🤣

      • Last time we did a gift dice exchange I got a Victorinox paring kitchen knife (I think it was $15/$20 budget?).
Extremely boring but it was one of the most stolen gifts! Everyone likes a good sharp knife.

My view is that you don't want to buy a tech gift for techies - there's a good chance you'll something crappy that they would never want / use, with the exception being if the recipient has explicitly identified something specific, but that isn't a likely scenario for a 'Secret Santa' :-)

I can't recall specifics, but I remember getting a USB drive as a Secret Santa pressie maybe fifteen years years ago. On the face of it, not a bad idea, but it was smaller than at least some that I already had, and was essentially completely useless to me. There's a chance I might even still have it around here, in the original packaging, if I never got around to re-gifting it to someone else.

Never unpopular is a bottle of wine - even for non-drinkers, since they still likely have guests they would serve it to, or can take it with them somewhere as a (re)gift.

    • Makes sense. Wine might be a good shout :)

      • Wine is definitely an easy one, particualrly in that it comes in a range of price points to suit whatever your budget is.
If you don't know anything about wine then just pick something with a few award labels on it!

        • Never drank / bought wine in my life so yeah sounds adventurous

In that case, if you go that route, I agree with Le Grande Fromage - just pick your budget (say, $30) and choose something with a load of 'prize' sitckers all over it!

Buy some local artisan sauce, rubs or spices. Its neutral and useful. Who doesn't like a good sauce? Try a local butcher or craft market.

  • Depending on the recipient, i.e. if it's the office guy that likes a joke throughout the year then a naked bbq apron is always a good option for everyone else to have a good laugh over.

    • That one’s a bit more difficult if the recipients are unknown.
It will definitely get a reaction.
Either lots of laughter or awkward silence!
