Hose reels recommendations?

Hey Cheapies team. Any recommendations for hose reels? Mine is leaking internally and is due for replacement… Preferably 20m length minimum.

I do not recommend Holman. Bought a few for home and work and they have not lasted.

Had mine a couple years so far. Works extremely well. Portable and NO kinks or issues with rolling or unrolling. Absolutely fabulously better than any other I've had. Not cheap tho. About $350 @ Mitre 10 from memory.

Think it had a 3 or 5 yr warranty

  • We have the Gardena 20m retractable. Solid unit, 5m warranty, but it's like $300.

    • This is a peak NZ story.

    • This should have said 5 year warranty, not 5m 🫠

General advice: when you get a new hose, stretch it out, get rid of any twists, fill it with water, and leave it like that for an hour on a warm day.

  • If you're looking for pressure washer hose that doesn't kink, this is a good one:

  • I also recommend the Gardena 15/20/30m retractable hose. Both Mitre10 and Bunnings sell them, so best bet is to purchase when another retailer has them on sale making use of the 15% price beat.

Gardena all the way. I went cheap and bought a Nylex one from Bunnings - it's fine but the water smells plasticky coming out of it, and the Gardena we bought feels much higher quality and has no smell.

  • We are on our second Gardena after the first retractable one failed to retract anymore. Our second one sometimes struggles to retract the last couple metres but I guess at least they have a decent warranty.

  • Berry and Bird branded hose reel on sale at Mitre10 at the moment for $99

Does anyone have any feedback on these?

  • Thanks guys - might look into the gardena, but those two deals from m10 and bunnings are pretty tempting too at the price point
