Best Place to Get Nespresso Pods

Personally really like the WArehouse Napoli option and they used to do 3 for 10 and sometimes better, back in the day but these days hard to get good specials on them.

  • You can often get them two packs (twenty pods) for $5 at places by Reduced To Clear, although they are usually short-dated (often a month or two in the future), but I've never noticed any difference in the coffee compared to ones from a supermarket with a twelve month (say) best-before date.

However, it varies whether you would get them on any given day, so I usually stock up with hundreds when they're in stock.

    • Thanks, every time we've been there - never found it. But will keep an eye out.

Yep - very hit and miss, like everything else they sell (at least the good deals). That's why I always buy loads when I can.

  • LOR pods when on same at Amazon. Usually works out around 45 cents per pod if you activate subscribe and save then cancel afterwards

  • Buy yourself a reusable metal pod off Aliexpress and fill it yourself, heaps of info online with tips and tricks for what kind of coffee to buy and what to do and not to do. It's pretty simple once you get the hang of it, there is a bit of trial and error early on mainly to do with how much coffee you should you put in the pod and how firmly you should tamper it down, but once you know what you're doing it will be like second nature to you.

It will work out heaps cheaper than the disposable ones because a 10 pack of basic Nespresso pods contain a total of around 50 - 60 grams of coffee, so a 200gm bag of coffee should fill around 30 to 40 pods and you can pick up 200gm packs of coffee from as little as $7 when they're on special (not instant coffee, I'm talking about real coffee) which works out to around 18 to 22 cents per pod depending on how much coffee you're putting in them, and when they're not on special they're still only $10 - $12 which still works out pretty cheap per pod, plus not being tied in to just buying Nespresso pods will give you access to a much larger (and fresher) range of blends. You can even buy freshly roasted coffee from coffee shops, and freshly roasted coffee is streaks ahead of the stuff you'll buy at the supermarket. Here in Dunedin I can pick up freshly roasted 250g bags from as little as $15, which works out to around 35c - 38c per pod.

Don't buy expired coffee or coffee nearing its best before date. Coffee has a shelf life and as it nears the end of that shelf life it greatly impacts the taste in a negative way. But don't take my word for it, just Google it.

At that point you may as well just get a automatic espresso machine. I've messed with the reusable pods but the it's not worth the time when the ready to go disposable ones are made specifically for convenience.

      • I think this is why society is the way it is if putting a scoop of coffee into a pod and tapping it down is too strenuous work for people. Forget about saving money or taste, they just want the convenience, I guess that's why fast food deals get so many votes on here all the time. I mean how busy is your day that you don't have time for the extra 20 seconds (at most) of work to scoop some coffee into a pod? OP asked for cheap options, I gave them a cheap option that also just happens to be the best tasting option imo. Each to their own.

Agreed. Ive got the metal reusable ones too, and they don't work the same as the regular disposable ones. They don't push enough of the water through the grounds in the pod, so you end up with weak watered down coffee.

Then you have to clean them (I use the end of a tea spoon to scoop out the used grounds).

As you said, if you're going through the effort, you must as well go down the espresso route.

  • Costco had a lot of different brands - sorry, I couldn't find anything recent. Husband got the 60 Vittoria pods for around $25 on rebate and he seems to like it (can't tell you as I don't drink coffee).

My in-laws get the Starbucks ones - 120 pack for around 90 bucks? They love it.

  • Seen heaps in stock at why knot in East Tamaki, Short dated, but for $2 for 10, im happy

  • The Warehouse have got a special on the Napoli pods at the moment - 2 packs for $9. Not as good as the 3 for $10 but still a lot better than supermarket prices!

  • I haven't seen TWH doing the 3 for $$ deals for a long time. Just the 2 for $9 (which used to be 2 for $7-8 I think).

Reduced to Clear have 2 for $10, but TWH is still the better deal.
