[Primate] Type 2 5m LAPP EV Charge Cable (22kW 3P 32A) $164 Delivered @ Mighty Ape

100

Found this while browsing Mighty Ape, looks like a really solid price for a full-spec 22 kW Type 2 to Type 2 cable and seems like a good brand too.

Elsewhere such as PB tech and Tesx want $300+ plus for this same cable. Also actually sold by Mighty Ape not one of those third party stores on there.

Most stores want $199 - $329+ for a similar 22 kW, 5 m Type 2-to-Type 2 cable. Even budget options like Smart EV Chargers start around $195 for the same spec, so this one undercuts them all from what I can see.

You’re getting a proper 3-phase, 22 kW-rated cable, not a single-phase 7 kW one. Nice bit of future-proofing even if your current EV only pulls 7 kW.

5m length is a handy middle ground: long enough for most public or workplace chargers, without being a pain to coil.

  • Since these have a male and a female, can they act as an extension cable on a tethered charger to it to a more distant point or does the interlocking prevent that happening?

No, All EV cables are specifically designed to not work as extension cable.

Pilot pins are different length in the cables vs the wall chargers, thus not mating when the cable - cable connection is made.

This is an intentional specification to make sure that a safe cable is used from the EVSE to the Car.

It is possible to make an extension cable using cable plug and wall plug combination, and some dodgy sellers make them and sell them, but beware as they can never be approved for certification for use.
