$180 bucks to have a mechanic change your oil and filter and look under you bonnet for maybe 5 mins. Another 5 mins to road test so basically $180 for about 30-40 mins work max. Better to take your vehicle to someone who will just change your oil and filter and then ask them to check your brake pads while they are changing your oil. You can look under the bonnet yourself to check whether any fliuds need a top up. Just remember that most car services only check things rather than doing things except for the oil and filter. Good quality engine oil on promotion will set you back between $40-$60 with oil filters around $25 .

  I agree but nor a fair comparison, I can't DIY this due to health reasons and all garages even Oil changers are no less than $150.
