Microsoft 365 Family Groups

I asked earlier about Nintendo (and other) groups and Microsoft was mentioned as it relates to groups on Ozbargain. I couldnt find anything on searching - maybe I was searching down the wrong rabbit hole.

Are there any viable alternatives to Microsoft 365 for my situation? I don't find any of the free alternatives great. Furthermore, cloud storage is now far too convenient as I can access my files and work on them with ease across devices/computers/locations.

For that use case am I going to be stuck trying to find others to join a family group? And is anyone here already in one or curious?

  • Google ai pro is a good deal I reckon, gives you Gemini, workspace (sheets/docs) and 2tb of storage for $370 a year, I think m365 is 360ish and that excludes copilot which is an additional $45/month I think.

If you're a sole trade you could claim it under your taxes if that helps to be cheaper?

    • I’m seeing $179 a year for M365 so $300+ is eye watering especially with Family M365 up to 6 users for $229 a year?

I have never found Google spreadsheet or word processor to be reliable in the real world that heavily uses doc and xls files either.

I agree - MS365 seems much better value than Google, plus from what @Naimady posted above, it sounds like you have to take the AI Slop with Google.

Am I seeing it right that with M365 across the six users, you are getting 6TB of storage too?

        • Yes but the 6Tb is across 6 x 1Tb buckets. I believe some people have used shenanigans to pool that 6Gb for themselves but it probably breaches the conditions and I believe things MS does could “break” that

Pretty trivial to do that, and why would MS care as long as you've paid.

            • @Alan6984: Shrug. I’m the messenger here and every MS support document supports what I just said.

Yep - I'm not saying you haven't taken the time to quote their documents directly and accurately.

I just didn't want other people to be misled by the FUD that MS use.

        • Ah yep, my bad. Was looking at enterprise pricing last time

It's a little unethical but you could sign up for one of the free Polytech courses that come with free M365.
