[Auckland] Golf Simulator Driving Range $10/hr, Virtual Game $20/hr (9am-12pm, 7 Days) @ KGolf, Wairau Valley

50

KGolf has a long running deal where use of their simulator bays is discounted in the morning, 7 days a week.

Regular price is $40 / hour for a virtual game, and $25 / hour for driving range (includes short game & putting virtual ranges also).

Discount price is $20 & $10 per hour.

Unlimited (auto teeing) balls.

I haven't used any other brand of simulator, but have found this one fairly advanced.

It's camera's track markings on the ball to detected spin rates in both axis, allowing slices etc to be accurately represented.

Rear and side video analysis of every shot, High speed camera footage of the ball leaving the club face, Vast amount of technical data, for swing analysis available.

They have a bunch of (adult) loan clubs. Unsure if this is an additional cost.

Note most Bays are suitable for right hand swings only, Lefties need to specifically book an appropriate bay.

Also it's very common to share a bay. most bays have 2 - 4 people.

Bookings by phone only. Note you will need to book more than a week in advance if you want a bay in the happy hour window on the weekend.

  • has anyone been? interested to see what this place is like - and are the driving range bays definitely auto tee?

    • It's auto tee. Also if you download the app and log in, it records all your shots with video so you can see how bad you did! I recommend downloading and signing up first as the process is a bit buggy.

    • I go weekly. For 1 on 1 lessons (not really a cheapies item).

Below photo from their website is an actual photo's of bays 1 to 4. (note only bay 1 has the left hander tee)

Bays 5 - 8 are a little less flash, with just curtains between bays (and the curtains only don't extend all the way to the screen so you can see adjacent screens), but functionally the same.

There is a single bay in a more private room upstairs (which also has the path to the bathrooms, so not quite private).

Yip, a new ball pops out of the floor each time you hit one. adjustable Tee height (Or knock it down from the tee onto the artificial grass (or artificial sand / rough) area's.

      • Hey mate, how much are the one on one sessions? Any coach you would recommend for a beginner?

        • +1

We are getting coaching from Peter, who is their head coach. We are beginners, and have been quite happy with Peter (and as such he is the only golf coach we have ever used). His rate is $120/hr generally booked in 30 min blocks (last session we booked 90mins between my wife and I). Simulator bay use is included in that hourly rate. Bookings and payments made directly, not via kgolf.

Can't comment on the other coaches. Possible they have a lower rate than the head coach.

          • @scott: Thanks mate. How many lessons did it take you before getting out on the course?

            • @weekendwarrior: I think we are up to 5 or 6 now, but also have been on the course a few times.

Mostly work on irons. I can hit out to about 100m carry with irons now, and have my driver 160m carry.

Really a question if you want to get a good stroke. If you don't really care, and just want to have fun, it is fine to turn up at a course and rent a set of clubs as a complete novice.
