Just be aware that iRacing is a very different type of experience to many other racing games/sims out there. iRacing is exceptional about providing as close as possible to a "real" driving experience; both in terms of the progression and the game play. Other games (eg Asseto Corsa or Forza) are a lot more adjustable to align with what you might want/expect out of a game.
Not saying that iRacing is not a great experience - it is, in fact I am thinking of pulling the trigger on this as I enjoy that type of racing too - but don't bin the whole thing if its not what you were hoping - try something else too

    • Good to keep in mind! I am looking for a realistic training / racing sim as will be doing track days and hoping to get into the local amateur rally scene if the budget allows.
If you do start i-racing, let me know as I would like drive with others :)

I tried it for the first time last night, and just getting around the track in one piece was a mission, but I really enjoyed it

I'd be keen to start at the same time, I used to play gt sports a lot but have been itching to get back into it. But I will suck so cautious of playing in open lobbies until I am better.

Sweet as kaz same here. I'll pm you my discord dets.[nevermind you dont accept messages] Anyone know a good nz iracing group?

        • As long as you're not wrecking people you'll be fine. Your iRating will eventually adjust so you're only racing people at your level.

          • @shzm: Yeah the whole wrecking thing is a massive one…you have to go into the races with the mentality of it being as though you are driving a real car…so no dive bombing down the inside using the other cars to bounce you through the corner or cutting the tracks etc…it really is about as serious as you can get….so no letting your young ones (who just really want to see carnage hahah) on to it :D

  • I'm interested in getting this but concerned with latency. For those who play, is playing from NZ an issue?

    • Nah; its totally fine. Well it was when I played it a while back - damn more like over a decade ago haha - but can't imagine it has gotten worse.
I even play AC Comp and even when my ping is higher than the average driver, you learn to just leave a little more buffer. Everything is still nice and smooth. Obviously if your household is consuming all the bandwidth that will impact things - but I figured your comment was more about us being a little island on the bottom of the globe rather than located in the middle of EU or US :D

    • there is AUS servers with low latency for me, and I'm on starlink as really rural.

  • Oh and be prepared to throw money at it too - as I recall you get a couple of cars/bangers for free but to progress through you need to be buying cars and tracks that align with what championships you want to progress with. I have grabbed the $20 subscription, so will give it another go, but I don't expect to play it long term as it felt a little like feeding the slot machines.

  • Does the iracing sub have to be activated straight away? I am wanting to buy a new wheel so once I have that I'll be keen on iracing

I don't think so - they send a code via email. You just use that code when you first make your account and it wipes the cost of the 12 month sub. Just don't make an account until you're ready to use the promo code

  • Anyone else just joined iRacing and want to race together?
