I'm in the same boat. I hate both FB and TM because the reasons you say.
I wish Craigslist (or similar) would get popular in NZ.

I saw an ad on Facebook, there is a new website called Kiwi Market? I think… Have a look

  • Wait until TradeMe has a no success fees day? They had one last weekend if you did a $1 reserve auction

    • And untick the pre-selected Ping payment option which adds an additional fee on both the sale price and any shipping!

      • my gripe, shouldnt be a default setting

Hard to beat FB. Even with the time wasters, good items at a decent price go quick.

Could try selling on here too.

Lots of stuff that you want gone for dirt cheap? Yep, sounds like you have your customers right here!

    • Even if they are free they don't go quick

Up your prices on Facebook Marketplace. Unfortunately, at bargain prices you deal with alot of timewasters and hagglers. At a fair price, you deal with more reliable people.

I had dirt cheap prices and dealt with garbage people for weeks. Doubled the prices and they went within the week with no hassle.

Deals on Facebook marketplace seem to go much better if you inflate your prices, and accept peoples offers.

i.e. if you want to sell from $100, list at $150, and accept offers greater than $100, or counteroffer at $100 for any lower offers.

Facebook marketplace buyers seem to detest firm fixed prices.

Have you considered going old school and having a garage sale?
Or even going to some of those car boot type markets where you can offload the stuff cheap?

Hardly anyone shows up at garage sales these days, not worth the effort

I hate it when people just flick that auto-message, “Is this still available?” and then disappear. I have started blocking them.

  • What stuff are you selling? Might be people here that are interested?

  • I'd first list all of them on Trade Me as auctions with a start and reserve price 10% higher than what you want to sell them for, just to cover success and Ping fees (you should always be offering Ping on your listings). Don't pay for gallery, don't pay for any extras on Trade Me, just list your goods for free and try your luck, auctions are good because all it takes is 2 people to want the same item for you to potentially make a lot more money than you expected to get, then if the items don't sell after a few weeks on Trade Me I'd go the FB route.
