YouTube Premium Overseas

Just received an email from YouTube that’s basically implying they’re clamping down on users outside of their subscription country. The days of cheap foreign subs are gone.
Any tips or tricks for cheap YouTube Premium going forward?

We are updating the Terms of Service for YouTube Premium, YouTube Music Premium and YouTube Premium Lite subscriptions (“Terms”). These new Terms will be included in the YouTube Paid Service Terms of Service and will go into effect on September 26, 2025.

We are making these changes to improve clarity and transparency regarding your subscription, including:
Clarifying our plan types.
Explaining our policies on promotional offers and accepted payment methods.
Clarifying that your subscription access should be predominantly from the country where you signed up.
Providing additional explanations and clarifications on our subscription policies.

You can review the updated Terms in full here and here. Please take a moment to read the Terms and familiarize yourself with the changes.

By continuing to use a YouTube Premium, YouTube Music Premium, or YouTube Premium Lite subscription after September 26, 2025, you’re confirming that you’ve read and agreed to the updated Terms. If you do not agree with the Terms, you can cancel your subscription from your Purchases & Memberships page.

Thank you for being a valued YouTube Premium member.

Sincerely,
The YouTube team

I use YouTube Revanced on my android mobile and SmartTube on my Firestick
Neither have ads. And revanced manager has a good selection of apps that you can mod easily.

Good suggestions. Also, if you have an iOS device, you can use Brave browser to block ads.

  • Wait so that means If I was to go to say India and pay for the year there on the discounted plan , once I come here I cant sign in / use it anymore ? Darn.

There's a megathread too on Ozbargain discussing these latest term and conditions.

I have Samsung Smart TV and just installed TizenTube to get rid of the ads. Very easy to install, all the step by step instructions are documented well.

Been paying for ad-free Youtube for 10 years already, back then it was called Youtube Red (2015).

    • Yeah I used to have YouTube Red also
But the prices increased more and more and I just had enough.
I've also got Revanced YouTube Music which is great.

Gave up on the dream, Moved to a student plan and paying with Google Play Gift cards.

    • I ended up going with NZ YouTube Family & splitting the cost between 6 people.

      $29.99 x 12 / 6 = $59.98 ea. for the year ($5/month).

      • Got any spots left in your family ;D

        • Sorry. You've missed the adoption window by 10 months 😄

        • Maybe consider adopting some yourself. I tried earlier this year, but it didn't work out as we couldn't fill the house.

          • @Detruire: Yes, I will if my current plan gets cancelled. How many did you have, would you re-consider?

            • @ScoobyNZ: Three (plus me) at one point, but I don't think the others would still be interested.

      • Doesn't this share your Google one stuff as well if you have it?

I probably need to look at all this as I can't imagine Google one turkey is going to be sticking around for long if they are clamping down on the digital tourism on their other services. Time to sink more hours in to configuring that NAS.

        • Not sure. Don't have Google One. I just know that everyone gets their own YouTube / Music accounts, and my account is the master account (kick anyone off whenever I want - have 5 family members & sold last spot to a random on Geekzone).

  • Yeah I'm using an overseas (Israel I think) hack at the moment… guess time will tell if it gets shut down and I'll have to look at an alternative method.

  • Yeah i just got an email too for this. Pretty Disappointing! Need to find alternative.

  • Oh, i user Opera Browser, its built in with adblocker, works really great, been using that but since got the YT premium, it was great.

  • We have google TV , any hacks to bypass the youtube ads?

  • I’ve been using vinegar on iOS it’s like $4 nzd and it blocks the ads and can play vids in the background. Is a bit shit and crashes but still better than nothing. Have to watch videos through safari for it to work.

  • Just a heads up warning for those in family plan. They've started cracking down on this: https://www.reddit.com/r/youtube/comments/1n7vcck/im_loosing…

  • Aaaaand it's gone, I finally got the email in Ukraine saying I might not be living my best life in that country.

Think I have just over 2 weeks to get vanced and smart tube working as I can't go back to ads, but also don't want to pay the crazy price they charge for premium family now.

I don't use music but if Spotify or tidal ever rumble that I'm not where I say I am I may one day pay for YouTube again as for all the family including music it's a more acceptable price. Just not when tidal is about $3 a month in Nigeria.

  • Still working in Argentina. $3/mo

  • It's not as cheap using Israel ~$12 , but still acceptable.
