what to buy if this is excluding fuel?
    any suggestion? gift card?

    • +5

I'm pretty sure you can use the card to buy fuel. The exclusion may be BP Fuel Card and not bp Fuels.

Got this response from the agent in the app live chat:

I see BP Fuel is excluded. They also offer snacks, drinks, groceries, magazines, as well as exceptional quality Barista made coffee and delicious food options for those on the go.

Seems a little strange to me - can anyone else see if they get a similar response?

        • I will ask again see if I got the same response.

        • Hehe, does seem silly. Go to BP not to buy fuel. I guess they make more money on snacks than fuel so from that angle it makes sense for BP to do this.

          • +1

@Discount Code: The BPs in Auckland all seem to be consistently a lot more expensive compared with Mobile! I'm sure they make enough on fuel too

        • +1

Yeah very weird, go to a petrol station but only to buy food/drinks.

        • +4

I got the same response from the agent:

So yes, petrol at BP station will not be an eligible charge

          • +6

@spam: Stupid idea and will catch many people out who don't read the fine print, what a joke.

            • +2

@Sonder: another punch in the gut is that they said the $80 spend need to be in one transaction.

What? are they expecting us to purchase $80 worth of coffee and expensive snacks?

              • @spam: $80 on Krispy Kreme is easy for me 😉

      • I'm thinking similarly. Because of where it's listed in the T's and C's I'm wondering if BP have a non-retail product offering called 'BP Fuels'.

    • +1

I'd be keen to know too.

  • +1

So we go to the petrol station and spend $80 but not on petrol????

    • +1

Not too difficult at a petrol station since snacks and can/bottle drink prices are so inflated 😉

  • worst deal ever by Amex

  • Why make this so difficult if they want people to spend money 🤦

    • I would assume Amex a multinational company are not aware that people here don't use a petrol station for grocery shopping 😐

  • It will be including fuel. What else can you buy on app coffee or car wash. They want you to add amex to the amex so you keep using it.

    • +5

I don't know this but will likely try tonight. How are amex going to know what you spend it on.

      • +5

Thanks for being the Cheapies sacrifice! Please report back.

        • Just got $83 in fuel. Usually get an email from amex which I haven't yet but will report back tomorrow if I do or not.

          • @Avatar: I payed in the app and it still says pending so might take a day or two

          • @Avatar: also didn't get an email today when I think I triggered the dining offer, usually pretty quick after the transaction

          • +1

@Avatar: Charge went through overnight. No email or anything in the app saying I got the cashback. I will report back if I do get a message or credit.

            • @Avatar: if it's like most of the past promotions, it'll take 2-3 days at best (for the credit to show).

              • +4

@simch: Credit came through this morning. Like other post said make sure you account for the cents of per liter and buy a little more than $80

Last time they had this offer I bought iTunes vouchers as I drive an EV

    • Good idea!

    • do they have BP gift cards? that can be used to buy fuel.

  • Something tells me the terms and conditions may not be correct

One of the bullet points say "Offer is limited to one credit per Card to which the offer is saved and only spend on this Card counts towards the Offer.". Except.. how can it be one credit per card when it's a 2x $15 credit spend $80 offer?

If this can be wrong, perhaps the one mentioning bp Fuels can be wrong too?

  • +3

If you spend $80 in the app, how does Amex know if it’s $80 on fuel or $80 on coffee?

  • Do we know if fuel counts yet?

  • +19

Can confirm it works on fuel from the BPme app. The rebate just came in. Just make sure if you’re using the discount on everyday rewards that you add a few dollars more at the pump.

    • Bloody brilliant! Thank you.

    • +1

      Thanks for that.

I notice in my everyday rewards app there is an offer to 'get to 2000 points on your next 4 fills' (minimum spend $40)
      1st fill 100pts
      2nd fill 200pts
      3rd fill 300pts
      4th fill 1400pts.

      Ends 31 Aug

      So given that, Fill 1 & 2 ($80 ea) = $30 back from Amex, fills 3 & 4 ($40ea) = another $15 from Everyday rewards

Might have to drag out the jerry cans…

    • Thanks for this mate - I am assuming it will still have to be over $80 in one transaction?

      • +1

$80 or more in 1 transaction

  • +2

Paid for fuel in-store and still got the $15 credit.

  • Does anyone know if it works for Gift Cards? Don't need fuel straight away and it expires in four days.

  • I bought some fuel and got the cashback. I did also buy a can of drink so maybe that changed the way it was processed but I doubt it!

  • same, purchased fuel on 18th in app and got the cashback on the 19th
