NetFlix Turkey is essentially dead

https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/917127

Seems I got in just before the cut off with my last giftcard purchase/load in July - only to have my account "reset" with a month of credit still loaded.

I sure as hell won't be paying the $34 it cost in NZ (vr about $16 in Turkey). The lowest NZ one is 720p (WTF!) plan has ONE screen (also WTF!) - and cost $18…

I haven't been using Netflix for at least a year anyway, I, much like I suspect many people, have been paying for it so my parents and sister can use it. I'll happily keep pirating any content they make that I may actually want to watch (i,e not much).

Any alternatives to suggest for cheap Netflix? Otherwise, I'm definitely not bothering to attempt to pay them again.

  • On a similar note - does anyone know if the RealDebrid issue of a few month back (being unable to search for and stream content due to French copyright changes) have been resolved?
I also gave up on that and went back to just downloading torrents. But need a more user friendly UI if my parents are going to be using it.

    • Me and my family use it daily and have for a number of years. We never faced this issue. Works flawlessly.

    • I just dropped Netflix turkey last month. Didn't reload gift card. Moved to Stremio +rd couple of months back and very happy with it.

    • yup its fixed it was only for one week or so then it got fixed :)

    • Jellyfin for the library / great UI, has apps for phones, tvs, and the site works well too
Sonarr for automation of downloads with Prowlarr (or jackett) for indexing
Jellyseerr for people being able to easily request content that you can approve (or set to auto approve)

Automation really makes sailing the 7 seas super easy, I haven't had to go manually find anything in ages, I add a series and when new episode is out, it grabs it and makes it available for me automatically. I can queue movies in advance and it'll grab em when finally available at my selected preferred profile , language, etc

i run the same setup for all my local media - it works brilliant.
not sure i'll need it with streamio etc now.

      • The only good thing about NF was that it would suggest movies/series to watch. That was good when the Mrs and I spontanusly decided to watch a movie and wanted to see what's available. With the 7 seas you need to know what you want.
Stremio helps with this issue somewhat.

        • havn't used stremio, may have to try it some time. with jellyseerr , it solves the discovery problem because it also uses the information from various sources as well as your watched library to suggest new things. the issue is only that you have to look in advance a bit because it needs to go grab things before it's available to you unlike Netflix

      • I have setup real debrid with rclone and zurg on my unraid to integrate it with Plex using this guide. This basically make any media available immediately(within few minutes) after adding it.
No more downloading and need to Sonarr/Radarr. I still have them as my secondary source now.

Also, got overseerr connected to above plex so it becomes very easy to look for new suggestions and what's new and I can add to my plex library via cli-debrid.

I'm not sure if straight out stealing is the Cheapies way?

  • Not unless you are happy with the 'extra members' offer which is ~$10/mo for 1 account which you can add-on to someone elses sub(they pay the entire fee, you pay them).

i got cutoff and immediately went to streamio + torrentio + realdebrid
    works perfect.

haven't found anything that's under copyright, quality and speed is great. no complaints.

    • Def best option :D

Another +1 for Stremio, torrentio and rDB.
Search it up on reddit super cheap and easy to install only $60nzd a yr with literally everything :)

    • Do these support captions?

      • Yes - pretty much everything has subtitles available in multiple languages with the ability to turn on/off.

    • Which is the paid subscription of these?

      • +1

        Real Debrid.
Pricing is in Euro but cheapest works out approx $5 NZD month if using the 180 day sub option.

If someone is interested in Stremio + RD + Torrentio + extras setup and don't know how or where to start, here is Stremio Account Bootstrapper the simple guide to setup everything.

You will need Stremio account + RD subscription with the API(Referrals available if you want) to work with.

Holy shitballs, that was easy. Thanks

    • Thanks

  • Yeah my netflix got cut a week ago had been fine for 2.5 years paying with turkiye gift cards. There reasoning was my accounts details had been compromised and would offer no refund or credit. Will stick to stremio plus real debrid and not bother with netflix for the kids.

  • Mine was cut last week with around 300TRY left in the account. Can't be bothered getting refund since lots people was told to bugger off anyway. Definitely not going to pay NZ $17 a month for it

  • Last time I used RD with Kodi with links (years ago) - I found the 'loading/buffering' time a bit too much. And also some links were dead.
Assuming it is not like that anymore?
How does it compare to the ancient -Sonar/Radar/Sab/Indexers/Usenet method feeding to local Plex? Yes downloading takes time but once it is on your server, it is there.

    • Not sure of the past, but have been using Stremio + RD as mentioned above for few months. Hardly any buffering except for in the beginning for 5-10 sec max. Have been watching 4k content on mobile, laptop, TV without any issues. The trick is know which links are good and which requires downloads.

I also have linked RD with plex for directly streaming on Plex.

I still have all arrs feeding to my Plex, so basically I am using Plex with both methods. Since RD came, downloading has been slowed down except for few series already on my list.

      • How do you know which links are good and which need downloads? Is it as simple as identifying the ones with highest seeders?

  • I too have been unable to topup my Turkey Netflix with giftcards so my sub has expired.

Reading the messages here on CC and Reddit, I was under the impression I could freely view Netflix content via Stremio.

Accordingly, I setup Stremio with the Torrentio add-on amongst others, and overall I am pleased with it. However, when I select a title from Netflix, I am asked to login to my Netflix account. My TV is a Sony Bravia and the Netflix app cannot be unistalled.

So do I still need a Netflix sub and if I choose the cheapest plan, will I be able to view the better quality content?

And is it the same with Disney+, Prime etc?

    • Stremio with Torrentio lets you watch a 'version' of the Netflix show/movie on the Stremio app. You essentially need to search for those shows/movies by name.
It's used as an alternative to Netflix not in conjunction, there it doesn't let you watch or browse anything via the Netflix app. Essentially you won't get the navigation or recommendations of the Netflix app without a paid Netflix subscription. Same goes for any other paid subscription such as Disney+, Prime etc

        Thanks, Martz5.

That makes a lot of sense now. I guess I will be using the Search button more frequently but it will be worth it.

        Cheers.

No worries. Theres also add on’s which you can install and it’ll display the popular movies/series from each streaming service or in general. That should help with your media searching.
Trakt or Streaming Catalogs are two you could explore.

          Try this https://www.cheapies.nz/comment/272035/redir

Stremio works really good with rd subscription and torrentio. Maybe just get a 30 day one which is around $5nzd.
