What to Buy from The Warehouse to Easily Resell?

Bit of an odd one, I have a large Warehouse gift card($1000). More than I'm going to spend in the short term there.

Selling gift cards seems like a bit of a nightmare. I was wondering if the Cheapies hive mind knows something I could buy and sell on Trademe etc to turn this gift card into cash without losing too much $$.

I would say something like PS5/nintendo switch or just try sell the gift card itself on trademe.

Not exactly what you are asking, but they do sell groceries. You probably can't get all your needs from TWL, but if you spent $100 a week there, you'd clear the balance in less than three months, and offset the $100 or so you'd be spending at Woolworths, PNS, or wherever else.

    • id do this as well. its as good as cash as long as you arent paying more than your usual round of shopping on the same stuff at TWH. their sale/clearance prices are usually pretty good..would take a few months to clear $1k there but would be a good way to do it without rushing and having waste on fees or time spent trying to resell stuff (and having to go through losing some value, experiencing the various lowball offers from people etc)

Got to keep in mind you will be paying TM 8-10% fees too so you will likely lose 20-25% value of the item you buy even if it's a high demand/good resale price.

  • I too have a $100 voucher (unfortunately not $1000) that I'm planning to get some butter to try out. Not sure how good they are though.

I agree with @RSTH, PS5 would be a good bet. It has increased in price in the last few months and don't think it will go down anytime soon.

  • would buying something then returning it work? not sure if thats allowed!

  • I could swap $70 for $70 as colour voucher?

      Butter

And a large freezer (which could use up a few hundred dollars of the thousand itself!)

I have bought gift cards with Warehouse Gift Cards before..
Maybe prezzy if you purely want spendable money with a $8 penalty.
Or you could split it up into multiple different ones.

      This is smart

  • Anyone know if you can buy prezzy cards with countdown gift cards?

I’ve been given one of those annoying Prezzee cards and trying to cash it out

      This seems nonsensical.

You are saying you have an 'annoying' PrezzyCard, then you ask if you can buy another PrezzyCard with a Countdown gift card.

Just use the PrezzyCard to pay for things anywhere that credit cards (Visa?) are accepted, and you will 'cash it out' easy enough?

      • There’s a gift card company with a deceptively similar name - Prezzee.co.nz - which can be used to purchase countdown gift cards (ideally, I’d like https://www.prezzycard.co.nz/)

          Got it - my bad.

          Apologies.

        Prezzee ≠ Prezzy

Prezzee is able to be converted to a range of gift cards but only to a select few (such as Woolworths). It is not as valuable as Prezzy which can be used anywhere Visa is accepted.

The website reckons you can: https://www.prezzycard.co.nz/retail-partners

      • Confirming it works, but has a $5.95 activation fee
Prezzee card > countdown gift card > prezzy card

Prezzy cards are crap as you can't do things like online payments, as they haven't updated for the latest security (can't recall the exact name but it's like the 3DS stuff). The number of times I had them decline for online shopping was ridiculous. There's also things like if you have small value cards they can't be combined for a purchase as most online retailers expect one credit card transaction to cover the whole cost.

        • The workaround I’ve found is to buy a Sharesies gift card, deposit it into your Sharesies accounts and cash out.
Though there is the transaction fee.
