Question for those who got multiple quotes for home renovation: who did you go with?

I've got quotes that are way, way apart in cost and there are some more quotes that will come in soon.

When you picked a company to do your reno, what other factors in addition to cost did you use to pick one?

I would be looking for examples of some of their past work and client feedback.
Don't rely on just the google/facebook reviews which can be made up but if possible actually go and have a look at what they have done.

Prior to building our house we went and had a look at one built by the builder we were looking at.
We were able to speak to the owners and got a chance to see the level of workmanship and talk about how the whole process went.
    It was really valuable.

You may not want to go to that extent but worth spending some time researching before making a decision, particularly if it is a significant expense.

It really depends on what you're doing, how much of the work you’ll be doing yourself, what the builder will handle, what’s being subcontracted out, and the materials being used.

Take a bathroom, for example—one person might go for high-end fixtures from Mico, while another might choose more budget-friendly options from TradeDepot.

Kitchens are the same. Larger companies like Kitchen Studio can cost significantly more than smaller local outfits. Some use more MDF, others might offer solid wood. Appliance-wise, some builders provide trade-discounted options (like those commonly used in developments), while others may expect you to supply your own.

We renovated a few years ago and are about to do it again with a new place.
We focus on things like the builder’s hourly rate, their markup on supplied goods, and whether we “gel” with them personally.
